Director of Manufacturing and Production Control
Veev
About Veev, by Lennar
Veev is leading the transformation of the construction industry with an innovative approach to home construction. Veev’s prefabricated closed-panel systems allow homes to be assembled efficiently on-site while delivering a more sustainable and higher-quality final product than traditional construction. As a new subsidiary of Lennar, Veev leverages the strength and scale of its parent company while maintaining the speed and disruptive approach of its roots as a Silicon Valley-based startup. Veev has developed a vertically integrated approach that involves multidisciplinary collaboration across real estate, design, development, engineering, manufacturing, and construction.
This role is critical to Veev's mission of transforming the construction industry with modern, sustainable, and efficient construction techniques. In this role, you will directly contribute to the efficiency, sustainability, and quality of modern home construction. Your work will have a tangible impact on Veev’s ability to scale operations and drive industry-wide change.
The Role
The Director of Manufacturing and Production Control is the operational leader responsible for transforming architectural designs into precise, pre-fabricated homebuilding components. This role is the critical link between design, supply chain, and our field construction teams. You will oversee the entire production flow, ensuring that all wall, floor, and roof panel bundles are manufactured accurately, on schedule, within budget, and are sequenced perfectly for efficient delivery and rapid assembly on the job site.
Responsibilities
Panelized Manufacturing Operations:
- Lead all production activities for the high-volume manufacturing of structural building panels, including cutting, framing, sheathing, and pre-installation of windows and exterior wraps.
- Develop and optimize standardized work instructions and quality control checkpoints for a high-volume, repetitive manufacturing process focused on panel production.
- Drive a culture of safety, ensuring a zero-incident environment through rigorous protocols and training in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.
- Manage the plant's operational budget, with a sharp focus on material yield (LGS, OSB), labor efficiency, and equipment utilization to achieve target costs per panel and per home.
- Implement rigorous quality assurance processes to ensure every panel meets precise dimensional tolerances, structural integrity standards, and is bundled correctly for its specific home and stage of construction.
Production Planning & Job Site Synchronization:
- Manage the Master Production Schedule to align factory output with the build schedule for dozens of simultaneous home construction projects.
- Master the critical process of kitting and sequencing: Plan production to ensure that all panels for a specific home are manufactured and bundled in the exact reverse sequence required for the field crew to unload and assemble them efficiently. This is a core function of the role.
- Lead the Materials Requirement Planning (MRP) process, optimizing inventory levels for high-consumption commodities like LGS, connectors, and sheathing.
- Establish and monitor KPIs specific to panelized home manufacturing: Units Produced Per Day, Material Waste Percentage, On-Time and Complete Kit Shipment, and Production Line Efficiency.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the factory and the Construction/Project Management teams, ensuring flawless communication on job site readiness and delivery timelines.
Logistics & Field Support:
- Oversee the logistics of shipping large, flat-pack panel bundles, coordinating with the logistics team to ensure timely delivery to multiple dispersed job sites.
- Continuously gather feedback from field superintendents to identify and implement improvements in panel design, packaging, and labeling to streamline on-site installation.
Leadership & Strategy:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of senior managers, production supervisors, team leads, planners, maintenance, and quality auditors.
- Drive continuous improvement and Lean initiatives to increase line speed, reduce changeover times, and enhance overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
- Evaluate and recommend investments in automation (e.g., automated cutting, nailing, or labeling systems) to boost capacity and precision.
Must-Have Skills and Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience in a senior operations leadership role, with a proven track record in panelized manufacturing, truss/component manufacturing, off-site construction, or high-volume production environments with a strong focus on sequencing and kitting.
- Proven expertise in Lean Manufacturing principles and a data-driven approach to problem-solving.
- High proficiency with ERP/MRP systems; experience with specialized software like BIM360, SolidWorks, and Netsuite is a significant plus.
- Strong financial acumen, with experience managing budgets and driving cost-saving initiatives.
- Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage the pace and pressure of high-volume production.
Nice-to-Have Skills and Competencies
- Experience in a residential production homebuilding environment.
- Knowledge of BIM software and its application in a manufacturing setting.
