Roofstock
What we do and why we do it
As the leading end-to-end investment platform for single-family rental homes (SFR), our mission is to reinvent the rental housing ecosystem for the benefit of all. We successfully merge our passion for helping investors build wealth through real estate with cutting edge technology that transforms the way they do it.
How it’s going (and growing)
With a talented team of 750+ Roofsters, our collaborative, can-do culture is what fuels our growth. In 2022, we closed on our Series E, raising $240 million, and have offices in the Bay Area and New York City. Our growth includes recent acquisitions of Stessa (financial and asset management software), RentPrep (tenant screening and placement service for landlords), and Mynd (property management platform for both Retail and Institutional investors). In 2025, Roofstock took an ownership stake in Casago (short-term rental management services), expanding our platform to support both long-term and short-term rental investment services.
About the Role
As Roofstock continues to scale its national footprint, we are seeking a Safety & Fleet Specialist to serve as the chief architect of our physical safety culture and the steward of our mobile assets.
In this high-impact, dual-purpose role, you will own the full lifecycle of our vehicle fleet while simultaneously developing, implementing, and overseeing a comprehensive safety program for the organization. You will bridge the gap between field operations and corporate risk, ensuring that every employee, whether in a vehicle, at a property, or in an office, operates in an environment that prioritizes their well-being. Your goal will be to maximize vehicle uptime and efficiency while fostering a "Safety First" culture that eliminates hazards and ensures total regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
Safety Management & Organizational Culture
- Safety Strategy & Policy: Develop, implement, and maintain company-wide safety policies, procedures, and programs (including the IIPP) to ensure a safe workplace for all employees.
- Risk Assessment: Conduct regular safety audits, property site inspections, and risk assessments to identify and mitigate environmental and physical hazards.
- Incident Investigation: Lead the response for all accidents, near-misses, and workplace injuries. Perform root-cause analysis and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Training & Education: Design and deliver safety training modules on topics ranging from defensive driving and vehicle safety to PPE usage, ladder safety on-site, and emergency preparedness.
- Compliance: Ensure the entire organization adheres to federal, state, and local regulations (OSHA, DOT, etc.) and maintain all required safety documentation and reporting.
Fleet Maintenance & Operations
- Maintenance Oversight: Supervise both preventative and reactive maintenance for the national fleet. Manage repair contracts, set SLAs with shops, and ensure vehicles are always "work-ready."
- Asset Lifecycle: Own the full "cradle-to-grave" process for vehicles, including procurement, leasing, upfitting, replacement planning, and disposal to maximize vehicle life and ROI.
- Compliance & Documentation: Maintain a centralized, auditable database of vehicle titles, registrations, permits, and insurance cards. Ensure all assets meet state-specific emissions and inspection standards.
- Vendor Management: Act as the primary liaison between Roofstock and external vendors, including OEMs, leasing companies, fuel providers (WEX), and telematics partners (Geotab).
Data Analytics & Financial Stewardship
- Performance Reporting: Collect and analyze data on maintenance costs, fuel efficiency, route utilization, and driver behavior, and present monthly scorecards to leadership.
- Budget Management: Review invoices for accuracy, control operational expenses, and implement cost-saving strategies to reduce the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
- Tech Integration: Lead the implementation of new fleet and safety technologies, ensuring telematics and safety software are fully integrated into daily operations.
Driver & Field Management
- Performance Monitoring: Use telematics to monitor driver adherence to schedules and safety protocols; provide proactive coaching for instances of harsh driving or idling.
- Driver Qualification: Manage MVR checks, licensing requirements, and driver onboarding to ensure only qualified personnel operate company assets.
- Emergency Response: Manage accident claims from the moment of impact through repair, partnering with Risk Management and Insurance on claims processing and Return-to-Work programs.
Qualifications
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in Fleet Management AND 3+ years in Occupational Safety/Health (EHS). Experience in a field-service or property-services environment is highly preferred.
- Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Telematics (Geotab), Fuel Management (WEX), and Fleet Information Management Systems (FIMS). Strong Google Sheets/Excel skills for data analysis.
- Regulatory Expertise: Deep working knowledge of OSHA (General Industry), DOT regulations, and multi-state vehicle compliance requirements.
- Leadership: Proven ability to influence behavior and drive change across all levels of an organization.
