🌎 The Opportunity
In the next 30 years, the world will transform every part of the built environment to be climate positive green infrastructure. But today’s renewable energy development process can’t move fast enough to meet global goals. Paces exists to change that. We are providing software and services to accelerate power development and unlocking one of the greatest opportunities of our time: transforming how infrastructure gets built and ensuring it’s built with renewable energy.
🛠️ Our Solution
Paces is building the development engine for renewable infrastructure and power projects. Our Agentic AI automates early-stage due diligence and combines it with in-house exWe have built Agentic AI that automates early-stage due diligence and pairs it with in-house expertise to accelerate late-stage diligence. The result: projects move from siting to construction-ready in a fraction of the time. Our platform streamlines siting, interconnection, and permitting for renewable energy and data center developers, real estate firms, EV charging companies, and more.
🧑‍🎨 Our Team
We are building a team where people can proudly say their time at Paces is the most impactful, meaningful work of their career. Our amazing team in Brooklyn, New York includes incredible team members from tech companies like Meta AI, DeepMind, and Tesla; various high growth startups; as well as industry leaders from TotalEnergies, Con Edison and GE.
Paces is growing rapidly and looking for exceptional people to join who want to have a massive positive climate impact while building a great culture! We are looking for an exceptional Solution Engineer to join our Solution Engineering & Development team, reporting directly to the Head of Solutions & Development.
🏆 What You’ll Achieve
  • Own permitting diligence. Review client-selected sites through the lens of state, federal, and local land-use approvals. Identify the permitting path, flag fatal flaws early, and highlight issues that could stall or derail development. Knowledge of interconnection is a plus, but your focus is regulatory diligence.
  • Run deep-dive risk calls. Tear apart sites for hidden land-use and environmental risks—endangered species, wetlands, cultural resources, community pushback—and show how they’ll affect timelines and development dollars at risk. Your analyses will steer and de-risk multi-million-dollar development bets.
  • Be the permitting voice at the table. Flag regulatory red flags early, push back on designs that won’t fly with agencies, and make sure our developers and engineers are building projects that can actually get approved.
  • Level-up the org. Train up Associate SEs, sharpen our permitting playbooks, and help spin up internal workflows and tooling that cut days off repetitive reviews.
  • Work with AI. Partner with our AI engineers to hardwire your permitting know-how into automated workflows—codifying repeatable analyses so the whole team moves faster and smarter.
  • Work on the edge. Get exposure to novel tech deployments, first-of-kind projects, and even NRC-regulated opportunities that push beyond today’s standard renewables playbook.
  • (Bonus) Agency whisperer. If you’ve built trusted relationships with permitting agencies, can negotiate mitigation measures, or have scars from shepherding projects through NEPA, EIS/EA, or NRC processes, we really want to talk to you.
📈 Requirements
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in environmental permitting, land-use entitlements, or regulatory due diligence (e.g., Environmental & Permitting Specialist, Project Developer, Environmental Consultant, or related role).
  • Strong working knowledge of state, federal, and local permitting processes (e.g., NEPA, CEQA, zoning/land-use boards, environmental impact reviews).
  • Familiarity with GIS and comfort reviewing environmental datasets; experience with scripting tools (Python, R, etc.) is a plus but not required.
  • Ability to clearly present permitting risk and diligence findings to audiences ranging from investment committees to county planning commissions.
✨ About You
  • You get energy from untangling complex permitting processes and spotting risks others miss.
  • Friends describe you as meticulous, detail-oriented, and maybe even a little obsessed with checklists.
  • You’re comfortable juggling multiple site reviews at once without dropping the ball.
  • You default to curiosity, ask “why” until you understand, and you love turning that knowledge into playbooks others can follow.
  • You’re excited by the chance to work on first-of-kind projects and to help hardwire your permitting expertise into AI-driven workflows.
🚀 Bonus Points
  • Experience navigating NRC-regulated projects or other high-stakes federal permitting environments.
  • Prior time spent in a fast-paced, high-growth environment (start-up or otherwise).
  • Comfort scraping or wrangling data from public GIS portals and environmental databases.
  • A niche obsession with something like bat habitats, wetland delineations, community permitting battles, or surprise us with your specialty.
💰 Compensation and Benefits
  • $140,000 - $150,000 annual compensation
  • Competitive equity compensation
  • 401(k) match
  • Health, dental and vision insurance
  • Paid company holidays & PTO
  • Hybrid work in the office in Williamsburg, Brooklyn ~3x per week
