Help us change the way the world parks

Parking isn’t just about spaces – it’s about creating seamless experiences, sustainable solutions, and smarter cities. At Flash, we’re not just thinking about today’s parking challenges; we’re actively shaping the future of parking + charging. Join us in transforming the way the world parks.

Join Our Flash Team as a Principal PostgreSQL Database Administrator

At Flash, you’ll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the mission-critical systems that power the future of mobility and travel. You’ll join a collaborative, cross-functional team where your expertise is valued and your ideas directly shape how we scale. We believe in solving problems before they wake us up at night, automating wherever possible, and celebrating every win when systems become faster and more reliable. If you thrive on tackling complex puzzles, optimizing performance, and building resilient systems, you’ll feel right at home here.

As our Principal PostgreSQL Database Administrator, you’ll own the health, performance, and scalability of the production databases that power our PARCS platform. You’ll lead high-availability configurations, disaster recovery planning, and performance optimization while continually improving the infrastructure that supports our products. Your mission: eliminate issues before they become emergencies.

As a senior technical leader, you’ll take full ownership of the data backbone supporting millions of transactions across our platform. You’ll collaborate closely with engineering, DevOps, and product teams to evolve our data layer as the business grows—keeping it fast, reliable, and ready for scale.

We’re looking for a forward-thinking leader who can diagnose complex database challenges, anticipate growth constraints, and design the next generation of our data infrastructure. If you love optimizing systems at scale, mentoring others, and architecting solutions that run smoothly without constant firefighting, this is the role for you.

At Flash, we empower our employees to innovate, collaborate, and tackle high-impact challenges. As part of our Engineering team, you’ll work with cutting-edge technologies, drive meaningful product improvements, and contribute to a customer-first culture in a fast-growing company.

What You'll Do:

  • Own the architecture, performance, and scalability of Flash’s production PostgreSQL systems.
  • Lead performance analysis and tuning initiatives, metrics to proactively identify systemic issues and design permanent fixes.
  • Partner with software engineers to review schema designs, query structures, and ORM usage for optimal efficiency.
  • Drive replication, high availability, and disaster recovery (HA/DR) strategies across multiple environments and regions.
  • Define and enforce database standards, SLAs, and best practices for schema evolution, query design, and deployments.
  • Collaborate with engineering leadership to align the database roadmap with product growth and data volume forecasts.
  • Lead database-related incident response, root cause analysis, and postmortem improvements across engineering and operations.
  • Identify opportunities to automate administrative tasks and modernize our database ecosystem.
  • Serve as a mentor and subject-matter expert, raising database literacy and performance awareness across engineering teams.

Technical Skills

  • Expert-level mastery of PostgreSQL internals, query optimization, indexing strategies, locking and concurrency models, and advanced performance tuning.
  • Proven experience architecting and supporting large-scale, high-traffic SQL systems in production.
  • Advanced experience with real-time replication, failover clustering, and Always On Availability Groups or equivalent HA solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and execute performance baselines, KPIs, and capacity models for sustained growth.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling and query optimization trade-offs in microservices and event-driven architectures.
  • Familiarity with secondary data systems (Redis, Kafka, DynamoDB, or similar)
  • Deep experience in automation, observability, and CI/CD database workflows using tools like Terraform, Ansible, or Azure DevOps pipelines.
  • Ability to evaluate new technologies, conduct architectural reviews, and define modernization paths.

Soft Skills

  • Operates as a strategic partner to engineering leadership—balancing performance, reliability, and velocity.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and root cause analysis skills with a bias for prevention over reaction.

  • Capable of mentoring and upskilling other engineers to build performance-oriented, database-aware applications.
  • Demonstrated ownership mindset—driving complex initiatives from concept through execution.
  • Clear, concise communicator who can translate technical issues into business impact.
  • Lifelong learner who thrives on tackling new challenges.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of progressive experience as a Database Administrator or Database Engineer in high-scale, production environments.
  • Proven track record designing, scaling, and maintaining mission-critical SQL database systems with strict performance SLAs.
  • Demonstrated leadership in cross-functional database initiatives—architecture reviews, migrations, and major performance overhauls.
  • Experience operating in cloud-based infrastructure (Azure, AWS, or GCP) with advanced automation and monitoring stacks.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline preferred.
