General Superintendent, Field Operations
The General Superintendent plays a critical leadership role on DIRTT modular construction sites, overseeing all aspects of field installation work as a specialty subcontractor. This role is accountable for ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to DIRTT’s quality standards. You are the maestro coordinating install technicians and other trades while working closely with internal manufacturing and project management teams and client stakeholders. This position represents the company DIRTT leadership on-site, maintaining a high standard of professionalism, efficiency, and safety. You will have direct reports who are managing day-to-day activities across a number of individual sites, while also bearing this responsibility for key accounts or projects yourself.
What You'll Do
- Plan and supervise the work of both foremen, install technicians, subcontractors, and trade partners. This includes figuring out method of construction, staffing levels, material quantities, equipment, warehousing / material storage, and work schedules.
- Coordinate the install technicians and subcontractors, ensuring job-specific roles are clearly defined and executed effectively.
- Monitor and enforce strict adherence to DIRTT safety protocols, quality standards, and site-specific requirements.
- Prepare quotes for installation opportunities of both DIRTT and CSI Division 5, 6, 8 and 9 scopes of work alongside preconstruction. Once executed, responsible for maintaining install project budgets.
- Prepare and review potential change orders for submission to contracted parties, including partners, end users, general contractors
- Review construction documents and modular installation drawings to plan workflows and sequencing.
- Track project milestones, schedules, and critical paths; adjust resource allocations or timelines as needed.
- Communicate and collaborate with Project Managers, Sales, Product Development, and Manufacturing teams to ensure alignment between off-site fabrication and on-site activities.
- Conduct regular site meetings with trades, install technicians, and stakeholders to discuss progress and resolve site issues.
- Perform site inspections to ensure workmanship meets company and client standards.
- Manage site documentation, including daily reports, change logs, safety audits, and deficiency tracking.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and consultants during on-site installation phases.
- Anticipate and proactively resolve conflicts or delays related to manpower, material delivery, or coordination.
- Support the commissioning, handover, and closeout phases by ensuring all install work is completed to satisfaction.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering or related field. An equivalent combination of a high school degree with training and/or experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Experience in modular, prefabricated, or componentized construction environments.
- 7years’ industry experience and 4 years’ supervisory experience in construction technology, methods, equipment, tools, and work procedures required.
- Advanced understanding of construction scheduling, cost control and ability to control and supervise large groups essential.
- Effectiveness in developing innovative construction methods and techniques for the project.
- Must have basic understanding of craft jurisdiction and working under collective bargaining agreements.
- Ability to mentor and train project team in all construction issues.
- Ability to show leadership and be calm under pressure.
- OSHA 30 certification is required.
- DIRTT installer certification is preferred.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
