Role Overview: Senior Director, HR Business Partner
Richmond, VA | In office, Monday-Friday
CoStar Group is seeking a Senior Director, HR Business Partner to lead and deploy people strategy across multiple organizations within the company. This role is a critical strategic partner to executive leadership and is responsible for shaping, executing, and scaling people initiatives that support business growth, leadership effectiveness, and long-term organizational health.
The Senior Director, HRBP will oversee a team of HR Business Partners and serve as a coach, mentor, and thought leader within the HRBP function. This individual will bring strong business acumen, a proactive and solutions-oriented mindset, and the ability to influence at the executive level while driving operational excellence in a fast-paced, data-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as a strategic advisor and trusted partner to executive and senior leadership on all people-related matters across assigned departments.
Translate business strategy into scalable people strategies that drive performance, retention, engagement, and leadership capability.
Lead, coach, and develop a team of HR Business Partners, setting clear expectations and ensuring consistent, high-quality partnership with the business.
Build deep understanding of business objectives, operating models, and talent needs to proactively advise leaders on workforce planning, organizational design, and succession strategies.
Anticipate and assess organizational needs across performance management, staffing, leadership development, change management, and communications.
Monitor and analyze organizational health indicators and partner with leaders to drive improvements with engagement, morale, leadership effectiveness, and attrition.
Lead executive-level discussions using data and insights from employee surveys, performance outcomes, and workforce analytics to inform decision-making.
Partner closely with HR Centers of Excellence (Talent Acquisition, Compensation and Benefits, HR Operations, Employee Relations, Learning & Development and HR Technology) to design and deliver integrated, enterprise-ready solutions.
Navigate and resolve complex, high-risk HR issues with sound judgment, thoughtful risk mitigation, and alignment to policy and employment law.
Drive the development of effective people communication strategies that strengthen transparency, trust, and engagement.
Contribute to the ongoing evolution of a best-in-class, scalable HR organization capable of supporting continued growth.
Provide oversight and guidance during key talent cycles, including mid-year and year-end performance reviews.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required from an accredited, not-for-profit, in-person college/university.
A track record of commitment to prior employers.
15+ years of progressive HR experience, including:
8+ years in a senior, strategic HR role advising executive leaders on people strategy.
5+ years supporting product, sales, or other client-facing organizations in a data-driven environment.
5+ years of direct or indirect people leadership experience.
Demonstrated subject matter expertise across core HR disciplines including talent development, workforce planning, compensation planning, and organizational design.
Proven ability to influence at the executive level and drive results in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
Strong knowledge of federal and multi-state employment laws and regulations.
Demonstrated strength in using data and analytics to diagnose issues, inform strategy, and measure impact.
Excellent judgment, interpersonal skills, and the ability to resolve complex issues collaboratively.
Demonstrated discretion and ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to operate independently.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
HR leadership experience within a technology, SaaS, or high-growth corporate environment.
Demonstrated experience supporting extensive, geographically dispersed sales organizations.
Experience supporting executives in complex, multi-functional organizations.
Hands-on experience with Workday HRIS.
Exposure to, or interest in, AI-enabled HR tools and technologies.
Experience scaling HRBP teams or operating models in a rapidly evolving business.
