Chief of Staff
Compass
At Compass, our mission is to help everyone find their place in the world. Founded in 2012, we’re revolutionizing the real estate industry with our end-to-end platform that empowers residential real estate agents to deliver exceptional service to seller and buyer clients.
Please note: this role is 100% in-office based in our office in NYC (110 5th Ave).
The Chief of Staff to the President will play an important and influential role in helping the company achieve its mission. As the Chief of Staff, you are a strategic thinker, presenter, and project manager who is passionate about solving the most important people, business, and organizational problems. You will report to the President and serve as a key manager in the company, working collaboratively alongside the entire leadership team. In this role, you will be required to move faster than you previously thought possible, dream big, and juggle competing priorities while maintaining an extremely high-quality output.
The Role
This role spans strategic planning, execution, analysis, communications, change management, operational excellence, senior-level influence and stakeholder management, cross-functional collaboration, and special project management of top company initiatives. It requires someone who can quickly establish trust across the organization and at the senior-most levels, influence without authority, and gain a reputation for being a valued thought partner and leader. This role will step in for the President in internal and external meetings and with agents — presenting, gathering information, and making decisions on the President’s behalf. The successful candidate should be skilled at navigating through ambiguity, uncertainty, and risk, and can operate at the heart of our business to inform and push our thinking and ultimately help shape our strategic trajectory.

- Set effective meeting agendas, curate participant lists, facilitate discussions, capture clear decisions and action items, and ensure timely follow-up to maximize team efficiency

Executive Communications & Culture
- Lead executive communications for the Brokerage President and leadership, crafting clear and compelling messaging for various audiences (including email communications to regional leaders, organization-wide broadcasts, and department-specific updates)
- Prepare presentations, talking points, and briefing materials for internal and external engagements, ensuring the Brokerage President is well-prepared and messaging is precise and aligned with company priorities
- Support and champion employee culture initiatives across the brokerage, working with leadership to foster a positive, high-performance, and inclusive work environment
Proxy & Business Acumen
- Act as a trusted delegate and proxy for the Brokerage President, attending key internal meetings on their behalf and representing them with judgment and authority
- Quickly gain a deep understanding of the brokerage business and customer to exercise strong independent judgment and make effective decisions
- Exhibit the ability to “see around corners,” proactively anticipating potential organizational challenges, developing a well-articulated point of view, and proposing preemptive strategies
What We Look For
- 8 or more years of professional experience; at least 4 or more years coordinating the delivery of initiatives and programs involving C-Suite leaders with a measurable record of tangible impact to the organization
- Critical thinking and analytical/problem-solving skills, and the ability to combine and balance qualitative analysis with a proven understanding of strategy, operations, interpersonal and technical competencies
- Ability to prioritize and manage work and trade-offs against critical project timelines in a fast-paced, scrappy, dynamic environment; growth mindset; results oriented and outcome driven
- Ability to stand in front of a large room of agents or small room of senior stakeholders to drive the business’s agenda, influence, and motivate people to achieve big goals
- Customer obsession; excels at synthesizing insights about what matters most to customers and accelerating velocity to deliver incredible customer benefit/experiences
