Job Description:
The Assets Integrity Engineer plays a critical role in strengthening the safety, reliability, and long-term performance of bp Southern Africa’s retail asset portfolio.
This senior engineering role is responsible for leading asset integrity initiatives across the retail network, with a strong focus on HSSE performance, Loss of Primary Containment prevention, structural and engineering barriers, legacy asset risk, assurance, and continuous improvement.
The role works closely with Maintenance, HSSE, Construction, Design & Engineering, Global Engineering, Dealers, and Contractors to ensure bp’s assets remain safe, compliant, resilient, and fit for the future.
What you will do
As Assets Integrity Engineer, you will:
Lead asset integrity and HSSE alignment
Drive the harmonisation and continuous improvement of Health, Safety, Security and Environment initiatives across bp’s retail assets.
You will help embed a strong safety culture by ensuring that key stakeholders are aligned on asset integrity priorities, risk controls, and operational standards.
Lead LOPC and asset risk reduction programmes
Take ownership of programmes focused on the prevention of Loss of Primary Containment and the management of risks related to assets at height.
You will proactively identify risks, design mitigation plans, support training, and work with internal and external stakeholders to protect bp’s assets, people, environment, and reputation.
Strengthen structural and engineering barriers
Lead the assessment, improvement, and remediation of structural and engineering barriers, with particular focus on legacy assets.
You will work with engineering, maintenance, construction, dealers, and contractors to ensure risks are addressed effectively and asset value is protected.
Define methodologies and processes
Develop, standardise, and embed fit-for-purpose asset integrity methodologies, procedures, templates, and minimum requirements.
This includes areas such as:
Risk-based prioritisation
Barrier management
Assurance frameworks
Inspection and action tracking
Governance and compliance processes
You will also coach and support stakeholders to ensure consistent application across the retail network.
Drive continuous improvement
Use audits, incidents, performance data, lessons learned, and root-cause analysis to improve ways of working.
You will manage a continuous improvement pipeline, track benefits, report KPIs, and ensure measurable improvements in asset integrity performance.
Manage systems, data and reporting
Maintain and improve asset integrity systems, registers, inspection plans, action trackers, and reporting tools.
You will ensure data quality, audit readiness, and effective decision support for operational and leadership teams.

What you will bring
We are looking for a senior engineering professional with strong technical expertise, leadership capability, and the ability to influence across a complex operational environment.
Essential requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related Engineering discipline
Years of proven experience in asset integrity, maintenance engineering, engineering assurance, or related technical fields
Experience within energy, oil & gas, petrochemical, retail fuels, industrial operations, or similarly regulated environments
Strong knowledge of asset integrity management, engineering standards, risk assessment, and compliance requirements
Proven experience designing or delivering HSSE, LOPC, asset risk, or engineering assurance programmes
Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams
Excellent communication, influencing, and problem-solving skills
Preferred requirements
Master’s degree in an engineering discipline
Experience working with legacy assets or large distributed asset networks
Experience with inspection planning, barrier management, audit readiness, and continuous improvement frameworks
Experience managing contractors and working with external engineering partners
