This is a role within the Castrol organisation and the successful candidate will become part of the Castrol ring-fence. If you are part of the ring-fence, it is expected that your employment will move with Castrol to new ownership.
The Head of Strategy and Architecture defines, drives, and governs the enterprise-wide digital strategy and architectural direction across the whole of Castrol. The role’s purpose is to connect business strategy to technology execution — ensuring the organisation works as one system, not a collection of isolated parts.
The role ensures that digital investments, platforms, and roadmaps align with organisational goals, deliver long‑term value, and support operational excellence within a secure, compliant environment.
This position requires strong engineering expertise across modern software, cloud infrastructure, and platform engineering.
What you will do...
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and maintain the enterprise digital strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- Build global architectural standards and capabilities, partnering with delivery teams to ensure consistent implementation.
- Own and maintain a global technology roadmap that anticipates future business and technical needs.
Enterprise Architecture Governance
- Lead the creation and evolution of enterprise architecture frameworks, standards, and principles.
- Oversee domain architects (AI, application, data, infrastructure, security) to ensure consistent architecture practices.
- Govern architecture decisions to ensure solutions are scalable, secure, cost‑effective, and strategically aligned.
- Define standardised processes, set guardrails for local variations, and conduct regular audits to ensure global consistency and compliance across key digital domains.
- Chair the Castrol digital design authority; ensuring all digital projects conform to Castrol’s reference architecture
Digital Portfolio
- Own the digital portfolio, ensuring investment decisions reflect risk, organisational capability, and strategic alignment.
- Strengthen design and engineering assurance through clear governance models, design reviews, and early risk identification and mitigation.
- Drive digital roadmaps across areas such as cloud and security, ensuring cohesive transformation across platforms.
Leadership and Relationship Management
- Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and engineering excellence.
- Manage key digital vendors.
- Build strong relationships with product, engineering, and senior digital leadership.
- Lead and develop a team of Enterprise and Solution architects on the execution of the digital strategy
Advanced Analytics & Data
- Define and implement Castrol’s data strategy - including support of IoT; industrialisation strategy
- Ensure the continued development of Castrol’s strategic data assets, including HDW.
- Develop, own and implement the roadmap for new data sources and integration.
- Ensure data quality measures are established and data quality maintained.
- Embed M/AI capabilities into core platform.
- Working with strategy and architecture establish data guidelines for projects to follow.
What you will bring...
- Extensive experience in global enterprise and solution architecture (or related field), with relevant architecture accreditation/certification (e.g. TOGAF).
- Solid grounding in cloud platforms (Azure), microservices and APIs, data architecture (EDW, data mesh, analytics), security architecture principles, and platform and engineering enablement.
- Deep experience in advanced analytics and AI.
- Hands-on experience with enterprise architecture tools and frameworks (e.g. capability models).
- Proven ownership of multi-year, enterprise-wide architecture strategy within a global, multi-site business.
- Delivery-focused, customer-centric self-starter who is collaborative, supportive and inspires trust, with the gravitas to be instantly credible.
- Clear and effective communicator with a proven track record of engaging and collaborating with technical and non-technical team members, including senior leaders and C‑suite.
- Commercial and pragmatic, with the ability to operate effectively across both strategy and operations.
- Proactive and solution-focused, comfortable working at pace, across cultures, and in complex organisational environments.
- Consistent in delivering to deadlines and remaining effective under pressure.
- Good interpersonal and influencing skills; able to lead multi-functional teams and instigate change at all levels.
- Proven leadership of architecture teams in fast-paced, multi-market environments, including enterprise and solution architects, vendors and global multi-functional teams.
- Strong critical thinking skills; can own and operationally deliver multi-year architecture strategy.
- Strong negotiation and vendor management capability.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Fluency in English, with excellent written communication skills.
Desirable Skills
- Formal architecture accreditation e.g. TOGAF
- Experience of embedding AI/ML into platforms
- Experience gained in an CPG environment
- Knowledge of emerging technology and innovation trends
