Job Description:

This will support the delivery of an enhanced customer experience and drive innovation by building global capabilities at scale, using technology, and developing deep expertise. Role Overview :

The Global Manager HSSE is the most senior HSSE leader in Castrol Product Technology, working across the entire business to deliver safe, compliant, and sustainable outcomes. The HSSE manager is accountable for the safe and reliable operating of our operational teams, overseeing HSSE for strategic projects (CAPEX), OPEX budgets and delivery of facility related objectives and strategic long term facility improvements.

The role provides strategic leadership and governance of the HSSE discipline across the designated applied sciences operations. The role is accountable for managing and mitigating risk in lubricant formulation laboratories and in performance test centres which span mechanical, tribological and electrical test equipment, including large scale rigs with high hazard ratings. The role oversees strategic development programmes to drive continual improvement in HSSE performance and provides assurance over the adoption and compliance of industry practices and standards from relevant authorities and institutions, including certifications and licences to operate where applicable.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strong leadership and governance of the global HSSE team for Castrol Product Technology across 7 technology centre locations

  • Lead development of the Technology HSSE strategy, associated programmes, and annual plans to drive improvement through our Operating Management System.

  • Develop and deliver the HSSE reporting requirements inclusive of Quarterly Governance reviews with senior leadership and represent the business in other forums relating to HSSE and OMS performance and conformance.

  • Lead and sustain a positive culture of care, wellbeing and psychological safety across the Technology function, putting people at the centre of decision-making and embedding the Safety Leadership Principles across all roles.

  • Drive visible safety leadership, reporting, learning, and influence and coach leaders across the organisation.

  • Support and influence the development of fit-for-purpose safety standards and processes.

  • Drive process safety field into operating changes ensuring and leading where required, process safety reviews through HAZOP/ HAZID

  • Develop HSSE capability and succession planning to ensure a high-performing HSSE function that enables delivery of strong HSSE performance and regulatory compliance.

  • Deliver effective risk management and endorsement processes, leading the risk process for the business including timely management of emerging risks through strong self-verification and assurance processes across Technology.

  • Build and support delivery of the strategic long- and short-term plans for our operating facilities.

  • Manage HSE&C CAPEX and OPEX budgetary control within specified delegations.

Job requirements & qualifications:

Education:

  • University degree (or equivalent work experience), preferably in engineering or a similar field.

  • Leadership qualification desirable.

  • Formal HSSE&C qualification (minimum expectation: NEBOSH Diploma) or graduate degree or equivalent experience in HSSE&C desirable.

Experience:

  • Experience in managing global, multicultural, high-performing teams.

  • 10+ years of overall experience, with a minimum of 5 years in HSSE&C or operational roles carrying significant HSSE&C accountability.

  • Experience in asset or laboratory operations and maintenance is required.

Skills & Competencies:

  • HSSE Management of Laboratories within a research and development environment

  • Process safety, HSSE reporting against legal compliance requirements,

  • Risk assessment and management within R&D operations.

  • Proven line management and leadership for diverse, multi-cultural organization
