About the role
The Global Maintenance Excellence Manager defines and enables best-in-class maintenance practices across Castrol manufacturing sites, by setting key standards and influence with PU and plant teams. This role is accountable for setting maintenance standards, systems, capability development and performance frameworks that help sites improve asset reliability, uptime and lifecycle maintenance cost. The Maintenance Excellence Manager will establish common frameworks (e.g., CMMS governance, preventive and predictive maintenance standards, RCA methodology, and spares optimization guidance), audit and validate against the standards and work with the individual PU’s and plants to establish gap closure plans with local leadership. The role supports consistent ways of working and best-practice reapplication across the manufacturing network in order to drive value and cost savings to all plants/PU’s.
What you will deliver:
Develop and maintain preventive maintenance (PM) excellence standards aligned with Lean / Manufacturing Excellence principles, coach sites on PM program health and maturity.
Work with all PU’s to establish common indicators to provide consistent performance visibility across the network, while ensuring that the plants are measuring to the standards.
Audit plant maintenance programs and metricies to determine key areas of support needed and work with Plant and PU leadership to enable resources to support any gap closure or process improvement plans.
Define, standardize, and govern the CMMS framework (minimum requirements, data standards, recommended workflows, and critical metrics), and support deployment including training, integration, data flows, adoption, and continuous improvement.
Coach PUs and plant engineering leads on PM pillar and to support in creation of a PM program which creates demeanour for transfer of technical knowledge from technical teams to operators (PM to AM transfer) in order to clear higher PM steps.
Coordinate development of standard PM task lists and strategies for common equipment classes in collaboration with Engineering and Manufacturing Excellence teams; enable reapplication.
Define and promote standard root cause analysis (RCA) and defect elimination methodologies for maintenance-related failures; support sites to embed consistent problem solving.
Maintain a Maintenance Prevention / reliability knowledge base for core technologies and recurring issues; facilitate learning loops across sites.
Create guidelines and support plants to launch PM pillars to drive spare optimization programs across PU to reduce spare part, R&M costs across Castrol
Establish and facilitate a Maintenance Excellence network across with plant maintenance managers to share and push implementation of standard processes.
Establish Maintenance Excellence dashboard to publish and review performance across PU’s report covering adoption, maturity and performance trends; provide insights and recommendations.
NOTE: The role does not have direct accountability for individual site maintenance execution, specific asset uptime or individual site maintenance cost delivery; accountability for execution and results remains with PU and plant leadership but the role is expected to create programs to have continuous improvement for the group metrics of maintenance and maintenance cost indicators!
Experience and Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years’ broad manufacturing experience, with a proven track record of leading maintenance teams and improving maintenance systems and practices in multi-site operating environments.
- Experience working with diverse, geographically dispersed teams and cultures; comfortable influencing without direct line authority.
- Data-driven and system oriented decision making—able to set clear standards, define governance, prioritize opportunities, and translate insights into practical guidance for sites.
- Demonstrated expertise in preventive maintenance strategy, RCA/defect elimination, and spares optimization; continuous improvement perspective with strong attention to data quality and standardization with the ability to coach
- sites to improve PM efficiency (ideally in FMCG or similar high-volume manufacturing environments).
- Strong customer management, facilitation and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence, coach, and constructively challenge leaders to drive standard adoption. Must have strong networking skills with the ability to build and maintain a dispersed network of professionals Capability to build and sustain a Maintenance Excellence community across sites, enabling best-practice sharing and reapplication.
- Strong knowledge of CMMS platforms, maintenance data management, and reliability indicators.
You will work with
Reports to the Global Manufacturing and Engineering Manager. Key customers include PU Engineering / Maintenance leaders, Plant Managers, Local Engineering & Maintenance teams, CI / Manufacturing Excellence leads, Digital/IT partners, and Global Engineering / Projects and Procurement partners. Leads through influence—aligning customers, providing clear standards, and tools to support implementation via PU and plant teams. Uses a wide range & depth of technical or strong knowledge and provides technical leadership & expert advice to others. Provides technical coaching / professional mentorship and assists in the development of others!
