Job Summary:

The Head of Engineering – Digital Delivery (Oil & Gas) is a senior technology leader responsible for shaping, building, and delivering the digital engineering capabilities that enable safe, reliable, and competitive oil & gas operations. The role leads diverse software and data engineering teams, ensuring digital platforms and solutions are robust, scalable, and aligned with the needs of upstream environments.

Acting as the technical authority for digital engineering, this leader ensures architectural integrity, engineering perfection, cybersecurity compliance, and operational reliability. They collaborate with subsurface, wells, production, maintenance, operations, projects, and HSE&C digital leaders to define technical standards and ensure digital solutions directly support business outcomes.

The role also serves as the site leader for the Digital Delivery Oil & Gas hub in Pune, providing mentorship, support, and people leadership to a 300+ strong Technology organization.


Job Responsibilities:

1. Technical Leadership & Engineering Strategy

  • Define and implement the digital & engineering strategy aligned with business priorities, technology stack, and enterprise roadmaps.
  • Own architecture, engineering patterns, and standards across automation, cloud, data, and operational technologies.
  • Drive engineering excellence, secure-by-design principles, and a strong DevSecOps culture.

2. Platform & Product Delivery

  • Lead software, data, and integration engineering teams delivering enterprise-grade platforms (real-time data, analytics, digital twins, CMMS, production optimization).
  • Ensure scalability, performance, and reliability of digital systems supporting 24/7 operations.

3. Operational Reliability & Cybersecurity

  • Ensure digital technologies meet operational integrity, cyber, and regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with OT and Digital Security teams to safeguard production sites, SCADA systems, IoT devices, and field networks.
  • Maintain high service reliability and resilience for production-critical digital systems.

4. Innovation & Technology Adoption

  • Introduce and scale emerging technologies—AI/ML, edge computing, digital twins, robotics, and automation—where they deliver measurable value.
  • Continuously evaluate new engineering methods, vendors, and architectures to modernize the digital ecosystem.

5. Talent Leadership & Organisation Development

  • Build and lead high-performing engineering teams across software, data, and enterprise technology.
  • Develop technical capability, career pathways, and a culture of learning and mastery.
  • Lead all aspects of partner and vendor engineering teams as needed.

6. Business Partnership & Value Delivery

  • Partner with delivery managers and business leaders to translate operational needs into digital engineering solutions.
  • Prioritize engineering investments based on business value, risk, and impact on production and safety.

Job Qualifications

  • 15+ years in digital or engineering leadership roles in operating companies, oil & gas, energy, or other asset-intensive industries.
  • Experience in leading large engineering teams and delivering digital technology portfolios.
  • Strong executive communication and senior leadership engagement skills.
  • Deep architectural expertise across cloud, data platforms, real-time systems, and enterprise integration.
  • Strong grounding in data analysis, data design, and emerging technology evaluation.
  • Proven innovation leadership within technical environments.
  • Proficiency in systems development, service operations, and resilience engineering.
  • Strong understanding of user experience principles and Agile methodologies.
  • Experience with cybersecurity, reliability engineering, and operational technology.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields.


Travel Requirement

Up to 10% travel should be expected with this role
