As an Indirect Tax Analyst, you will play a critical role in delivering accurate and timely indirect tax compliance across Australia and New Zealand. Reporting to the Indirect Tax Operations Manager – Asia Pacific, you’ll support bp’s tax governance by ensuring high data integrity and providing insights that drive better tax and business outcomes.

You’ll collaborate closely with internal finance teams, offshore service centres, and tax authorities, becoming a trusted advisor on indirect tax matters. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment, enjoys solving complex tax issues, and is passionate about continuous improvement.

What You Will Deliver

  • Review and analyse periodic indirect tax compliance obligations, primarily for Australian Excise and New Zealand Customs Excise, as well as GST and other taxes as required.
  • Provide timely and accurate advice to business stakeholders on indirect tax matters.
  • Guide and support offshore GBS teams in preparing indirect tax submissions.
  • Liaise with the ATO, NZ IRD, and other authorities to manage queries and ensure compliance.
  • Conduct training and knowledge-sharing sessions to uplift indirect tax awareness across finance and business teams.
  • Identify risks, opportunities, and process improvements in tax compliance; escalate insights to senior management.
  • Support tax-related business projects, including providing key tax inputs and participating in User Acceptance Testing (UAT).

What You Will Need to Be Successful

  • A degree or professional qualification in Accounting, Law, or a related field.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in an indirect tax role with strong compliance exposure.
  • Strong stakeholder management, interpersonal skills, and the ability to influence across multiple teams and locations.
  • Experience interpreting indirect tax legislation within corporate or chartered environments.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with offshore teams and support capability development.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems, particularly SAP.

Key Technical Competencies

  • In-depth understanding of indirect tax accounting and compliance processes.
  • Strong data analytical skills with the ability to interpret and translate complex tax data into actionable insights.
  • Experience in indirect tax advisory, including contributions to business projects and transactions.
  • Ability to assess and mitigate tax-related risks, and identify opportunities for improved compliance efficiency.
  • Practical experience working with tax authorities and managing regulatory queries.
