Job Purpose
The Expert Strategic Account Liaison, India OEMs, represents bp at the technical departments of major automotive OEMs headquartered in India. Holds global responsibility for these OEMs and develops relationships with their technical departments, gaining insights, technical knowledge and trends regarding current and future transportation hardware. Also presents or facilitates presentation of technical offer and capability to the OEMs, identifying potential for collaboration aligned with the OEM’s and bp/Castrol’s strategy, establishing joint projects and then ensuring they are delivered according to agreed targets.
Building new business based on technology programs with key OEMs in India is pivotal to strategy to power growth in mobility. Build technology relationships from working to senior levels with OEMs, interacting with engineering leads and technical decision-makers for fluid approvals. The main responsibility is to lead the joint engineering & development agenda between bp/Castrol and the partner, grounded in technology, resulting in advanced products, progressive solutions and environmental leadership. This requires extensive collaboration and customer management- both within target partner OEMs and within cross-functional delivery teams.
The role demonstrates OEM contacts and knowledge to advise bp/Castrol Product Development on detailed technical requirements, optimal test programme develop and approach, and negotiates required product flexibility, to facilitate technical and commercial objectives.
This position will be supervised by an existing Expert Strategic Account Liaison, India OEMs, but with distinct responsibilities for specific OEMs . There is a growing breadth of opportunity in India, including commercial vehicle and off-highway B2B opportunities. The role is part of a global team of managers, ultimately reporting into the Senior Manager for OEM & Motorsport Technology. The team has responsibility technology relationships with all of organisations strategic automotive partners, in close collaboration with commercial counterparts in the Customers & Products/Castrol Global Account Management team.
Key Accountabilities
- Be a subject matter expert on India OEM specifications, trends and strategies. Internal programmes and help set strategic direction.
- Develop and manage relationships at target strategic India OEMs, including those where bp/Castrol has not had recent contact.
- Developing insights into needs and proactively finding opportunities to work with them and developing a roadmap of projects for mutual value.
- Leverage product development teams on detailed and negotiates maximum potential read-across and test pass-fail limits, objectives.
- Provide appropriate input and advice to Sales, technology deployment, and product development to ensure the technical submissions for OEM tender processes are completed in a timely, quality and aligned fashion.
- Being the first point of contact at the working level, representing lubricants and other product technology technical centres.
- Responsible for the relevant OEM approval process to make sure that the required approvals can be achieved in minimum turnaround times.
- Communicating technical data to support ongoing technical dialogue and product approvals.
- Working to deliver OEM specific product developments, providing advice on build as well as ongoing inputs to the project team from the OEM as work progresses.
- Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams (including technology deployment, marketing, supply chain & procurement) to ensure product range is aligned with OEM and Castrol compliance requirements.
Position Requirements
- Minimum Bachelors degree & 18+ years’ industry experience; would consider equivalent experience in lieu of degree
- Recognised expertise in automotive engineering, lubricant or fuel technology
- Technical credibility to represent Castrol fluid technology within the OEM
- Extensive experience of presenting technology to third parties
- Comfortable with working with uncertainty and ambiguity. Skilled at taking the lead and setting the direction of projects to cut through the ambiguity to reach solutions.
- A proven track record of building relationships and networks, working effectively across internal and external teams
- Desired knowledge of automotive powertrain technology, and associated lubricant requirements.
- Fluent English essential
