Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced and commercially driven Category Manager to join bp Portugal, S.A. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and delivering category strategies that drive sales, margin, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence across the retail network.
You will lead supplier relationships, negotiate commercially advantageous agreements, and work cross-functionally with internal and external partners to ensure category plans are executed effectively. This is a key role in shaping the customer offer, improving category performance, and supporting bp’s retail growth strategy in Portugal.
Key Responsibilities
Category Strategy & Performance
- Develop and implement robust category plans, including buying strategies, sales forecasting, supplier selection, and supplier validation.
- Build and execute category strategies that deliver value, improve customer offer, and support business growth.
- Monitor category performance against key metrics, identifying risks, opportunities, and corrective actions where needed.
- Use market insights, customer trends, competitor activity, and performance data to inform decisions and optimize category performance.
- Support pricing decisions, range development, and category reviews to ensure a competitive and relevant customer proposition.
Supplier Management & Negotiation
- Lead complex supplier negotiations, applying strong preparation and commercial acumen to secure favorable terms, pricing, and service conditions.
- Develop and maintain effective supplier relationships, promoting collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure suppliers deliver against agreed performance expectations, commercial targets, and contractual commitments.
Promotions, Product Range & Execution
- Work closely with suppliers and Marketing to develop promotional plans that increase customer awareness, drive conversion, and enhance buying behaviour.
- Support the implementation of new products, category range reviews, and space planning activities, including planograms and assortment recommendations.
- Ensure pricebook accuracy and minimize operational issues related to category changes, promotions, and product launches.
- Partner with Operations teams to ensure promotions and activations are executed effectively at site level.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Collaborate cross-functionally with teams including Marketing, Operations, Supply Chain, and other key stakeholders to ensure category strategies are aligned and delivered successfully.
- Provide ongoing support to franchisees, including regular site visits, to understand customer needs, improve execution, and strengthen category performance in store.
- Act as a trusted business partner, contributing category expertise and recommendations to support wider retail objectives.
Essential Experience and Qualifications
- Proven experience in Category Management, Retail Buying, or a similar commercial role.
- Strong experience in supplier relationship management and commercial negotiations.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement category strategies that deliver measurable business results.
- Experience working in a fast-paced retail or consumer-facing environment.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and translate insights into actions.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across multiple functions.
- High level of digital fluency, including experience using relevant systems, tools, and reporting platforms.
- Fluency in Portuguese and English is required.

- Skilled in managing multiple priorities and delivering results in a dynamic environment.
- Experience supporting franchise or multi-site retail operations would be an advantage.
