Early Careers at bp

Looking to turn your career dreams into global impact? Explore graduate opportunities with bp. Here you get to work on challenging projects, learn from experts and mentors, and be part of a high-performing team from the get-go. You get the freedom to think boldly, the licence to innovate and the chance to grow in multiple directions. And you get supported, recognised and rewarded along the way.

One Subsurface is our early careers programme designed to create a pipeline of diverse subsurface professionals. The program is 3 years, with most early careers completing two 18-month rotations, designed to provide breadth of experience and build technical depth.

Early careers will follow a structured development offer to accelerate the acquisition of foundational technical skills, experience and knowledge, and application in the business world. The programme supports transition from university to discipline professional and, through our 'Elevate' training programme, provides a framework of ‘non-technical’ skills to support building personal effectiveness, helping you to grow both personally and professionally.

Early careers will build their experience through challenging development assignments, grow a toolkit of transferable skills for the future, and have a dedicated network of support, as well as a vibrant Early Careers community, to help them succeed.

You will be embedded within the West Nile Delta (WND) Production Management Team, gaining hands‑on exposure to:

  • Real‑time production surveillance and optimization.

  • Integrated well, reservoir, and system performance workflows.

  • Barrier health, well integrity management, and operational decision making.

  • Multi‑disciplinary collaboration with operations, subsurface, wells, and engineering.

Role Purpose

As a Graduate Petroleum Engineer supporting the Production Management Team (PMT), you will help ensure safe, reliable, compliant and optimized production delivery across WND’s offshore gas assets. You will support daily operations, participate in system optimization, and contribute to field management activities consistent with bp’s production management workflows.

Key Responsibilities

1. Production Surveillance & Base Management

  • Support daily monitoring of well and system performance, flowing conditions, facilities reports and well test results.

  • Track anomalies, excursions, and deviations to support barrier health, production risk identification, and optimization opportunities.

  • Maintain live well data, integrity surveillance inputs, and basic diagnostics support.

2. Production Optimization & Opportunity Maturation

  • Assist in building and maintaining the production hopper, contributing to well‑by‑well reviews and optimization discussions.

  • Support system modelling and short‑term optimization activities using digital tools under senior guidance.

  • Prepare inputs to choke‑based optimization across reservoir, well, network, and facility constraints. (PMS four‑chokes model)

3. Deferral Management & Performance Insights

  • Help document daily production deferrals using bp tracking tools, assisting in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA).

  • Contribute to monthly Installed Production Capacity (IPC) updates and production trend dashboards.

4. Well Integrity & Barrier Health Exposure

  • Gain foundational exposure to barrier health stewardship, surveillance plans, and integrity management processes.

5. Multidisciplinary & Operational Interface

  • Participate in joint well-by-well reviews for reserves management and well‑work identification.

  • Support communication of operating guidance (e.g., choke settings, start-up/shutdown instructions) to site operations.

  • Engage with site to support safe, optimized execution of production plans.

Required Qualifications

  • This role is open for Egyptian nationals only.

  • Military service certificate or a document indicating their status (for male applicants)

  • Relevant bachelor’s and/or master’s degree with minimum CGPA of 2.8

  • 2023, 2024, 2025 academic year graduates are eligible to apply

  • Fluency in English and Arabic communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

  • Strong organizational abilities, able to work to deadlines.

  • Willingness to travel to remote areas for extended duration

Desirable Skills

  • Familiarity with production systems, well behavior, or flow assurance basics.

  • Basic exposure to Petroleum Experts tools (Prosper, GAP, MBAL).

  • Understanding of offshore & subsea gas field operations (academic or internship exposure).

What You Will Gain

  • Deep exposure to real operational challenges in one of Egypt’s largest gas developments.

  • Accelerated learning via structured Early Careers technical and non‑technical training.

  • Mentoring from senior petroleum engineers and production leaders.

  • Practical understanding of bp’s key workflows: base management, IPC, deferral stewardship, barrier health, and production optimization (four‑choke framework).
