Job Description:

Early Careers at bp

Looking to turn your career dreams into global impact? Explore graduate opportunities with bp. Here you get to work on challenging projects, learn from experts and mentors, and be part of a high-performing team from the get-go. You get the freedom to think boldly, the licence to innovate and the chance to grow in multiple directions. And you get supported, recognised and rewarded along the way.

One Engineering is our early careers programme designed to create a pipeline of diverse professional engineers who are high-performers, have broad discipline experience, a transferable skills-set, leading through the energy transition, and solving the most complex problems of today and of the future. The program is 3 years, with either two 18-month or three 12-month rotations, designed to provide breadth of experience and build technical depth.

Early careers will follow a structured development offer to accelerate the acquisition of foundational technical skills, experience and knowledge; and application in the business world. The programme supports transition from university to discipline professional and, through our 'Elevate' training programme, provides a framework of ‘non-technical’ skills to support building personal effectiveness, helping you to grow both personally and professionally.

Early careers will build their experience through challenging development assignments, grow a toolkit of transferable skills for the future, and have a dedicated network of support, as well as a vibrant Early Careers community, to help them succeed.

Role and Responsibilities

Electrical power is a fundamental requirement for bp’s businesses. Electrical systems provide light, heat and motive power—enabling safe, reliable operation of production facilities and the movement of products from production to the marketplace.

As an early career electrical engineer at bp, you will work within an operating environment, supporting existing production plants to remain safe, reliable and efficient. You will apply your academic foundation through hands‑on operational exposure, mentoring, and on-the-job development.

You will be part of teams that support electrical systems from power generation through distribution to end consumers, gaining practical exposure to a broad range of electrical equipment, including power generation, switchgear, transformers, motors, variable speed drives, uninterruptible power supplies, batteries, protection systems and Electrical Control Systems (ECS).

With appropriate guidance and supervision from senior engineers, you will:

  • Support day‑to‑day electrical activities within the operating area, including activity prioritization, planning discussions, and troubleshooting of electrical equipment.

  • Contribute to incident investigations and root cause failure analyses (RCFAs) related to electrical issues as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Assist with electrical design input and technical reviews for Management of Change (MOC) activities and small‑scale operational projects (CAT C).

  • Support the review and understanding of electrical design information, including electrical design philosophies, single line diagrams, and other relevant design documents, such as arc flash and protection coordination studies in line with international standards (IEC, IEEE, API, etc.).

  • Participate in the definition and improvement of electrical equipment strategies.

The precise nature of your role will be shaped by your skills as well as the needs of the business, but your duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Working on projects and supporting your team to find the best solutions for complex problems.

  • Contributing to the high performance within your team and for the wider business.

  • Building relationships both within bp and with our external partners, collaborating across functions, entities and teams to deliver excellence.

  • Demonstrating drive and dedication through the bp values with an emphasis on safety.

  • Fluency in English and Arabic communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

  • Strong organizational abilities, able to work to deadlines.
