About the Role:
We are seeking an outstanding and passionate leader to supervise Rumaila’s New Well Delivery (NWD) team. This high‑impact leadership role requires deep technical expertise, strong strategic capabilities, and the ability to encourage and develop a team with varied strengths of over 50 professionals, including bp staff, expatriate contractors, and national employees.
You will be responsible for driving safe and efficient delivery of Rumaila’s new well portfolio, both in‑year targets and long‑term activity, while shaping the nationalisation agenda and embedding continuous improvement across all NWD processes.
Key Accountabilities:
Safety Leadership
- Act as a role‑model safety leader, fully embodying Rumaila Safety Leadership Principles.
- Promote a culture where safety is prioritized in all aspects of New Well Delivery.
Leadership & People Development
- Run and lead a multidisciplinary team of more than 50 staff.
- Drive the nationalisation programme through capability development, on‑the‑job training, mentoring, and structured competency assessments.
- Provide direct support and coaching to the national New Well Delivery Manager.
- Offer ad hoc support to the Subsurface Deputy Manager as required.
NWD Wedge Delivery – In‑Year & Long‑Term
- Ensure strong cross‑functional collaboration with Reservoir Management, Base Management, Wells, Operations, and Projects to meet production and injection targets.
- Align LTP/ERP, Concept Development, and Project schedules with long‑term NWD activity plans.
- Coordinate closely with the Land Management team on surface space requirements for future drilling activity.
- Ensure Wells Rig contracting strategy aligns with long‑term NWD needs, including rig utilisation and data acquisition plans.
- Own and maintain key new well documentation (Statement of Requirements, lithology logs, End of Well reports, etc.).
- Serve as owner of the Draft Rumaila Drilling Schedule (4–20Q).
- Act as a key collaborator for the Rumaila 8Q Plan and the Reservoir Management NWD hopper.
New Well Common Process (NWCP) Stewardship
- Serve as custodian of the Rumaila New Well Common Process.
- Ensure all new wells are planned and delivered in strict accordance with NWCP.
- Champion continuous improvement via target tracking, NPT analysis, performance reviews, and process optimization.
- Ensure operational findings are collected, shared, and embedded.
Team & Resource Management
- Ensure the NWD team is fully resourced to meet both current and forecasted activity levels.
- Maintain high standards of technical excellence and delivery performance.
Technology & Innovation
- Maintain active links with industry communities of practice.
- Supervise emerging technologies and standard processes, applying them to Rumaila operations where appropriate.
Experience & Qualifications:
- Degree or equivalent experience in Geoscience or Petroleum Engineering; MSc or higher preferred.
- Extensive oilfield experience, including significant leadership within New Well Delivery and direct line management responsibilities.
- Proven track record in coordinated, fast‑paced, cross‑functional environments.
- Deep technical knowledge across NWD processes, including:
- High Angle Wells
- Geological & geophysical evaluation
- Drilling/well BoD
- PPFG/WBS/DPZ analysis
- Data acquisition planning
- International experience across both greenfield and brownfield developments.
- Proven track record to lead through influence and encourage high‑performing teams.
- Strong critical thinking, prioritisation, and decision‑making skills.
- Proficient English with strong communication and presentation skills.
- Experience in hiring, developing, mentoring, and coaching technical staff.
- History of working to international industry standards.
