Role Synopsis

Enterprise Technology Engineers work on the strategic technology platforms we exploit from the market, or come with deep skills in the implementation and integration of market solutions into our overall technology landscape. You will bring a broad base of Digital technical knowledge and a solid understanding of software delivery principles. You will be familiar with lifecycle methods, with Agile delivery and the DevOps approach at the core. You will be skilled in the application of approaches such as Site Reliability Engineering in the delivery and operation of the technologies you deliver, working as part of multi-disciplinary squads.

This role will sit in the GPTA Technology Retail team under the Trading and Shipping (T&S) product group, supporting the Gas and Power Trading Americas (GPTA) product line. This team is responsible for supporting the Retail C&I (Commercial & Industrial) business. This role will have a mix of technical skills, such as knowledge of cloud infrastructure and services, infrastructure automation, as well as soft skills such as problem-solving, collaboration, and communication. It's an exciting time to a be a part of a high performing collaborative team which supports one of bp’s newest customer bases within T&S.
Key Accountabilities

- Ensure “silent running” BAU service delivery for applications and systems which support Retail trading activities from front to back office.
- Perform analysis, consult, and develop recommendations to address complex technical issues as they relate to the operation and control of applications and systems.
- Effectively manage partner communications with business and Technology management.
- Implement and maintain monitoring and alerting tools to ensure that systems are running smoothly and that any issues are detected and resolved quickly. This includes setting up dashboards, creating alerts, and analyzing system logs and metrics. Result: Smooth running systems with minimal downtime, and quick resolution of any issues that arise.
- Support the implementation and deployment of replacement, upgraded, or enhanced versions of Retail applications and platforms.
- Ensure maintenance and support activities are in compliance with Technology processes and adhere to Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Ensure operational integrity of what you support, assuring operational compliance with architectural and security standards, as well as compliance and policy controls refined by Strategy.
- Define and document standard run books and operating procedures. Create and maintain system information and architecture diagrams.
- Work as part of evolving multi-disciplinary teams which may include Software Engineers, Enterprise Technology Engineers, Designers, SecOps, and Product owners to deliver value through the application of specialist skills.
- Work with vendors and partners providing market solutions to optimize the usage and value which can be delivered from the appropriate technology platform.
- Participate in Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity Plan (BCP) exercises and deployments.
- Mentor others and become a conduit to connect the broader organization.
Essential Education
- Bachelor in computer science, engineering, information systems or similar degree.
Essential Experience
- Some years of experience in the IT industry with broad experience supporting enterprise applications like Salesforce, SAP, or ETRMs.
- Experience using SQL Server or Oracle for querying, running scripts, etc.
- Experience using cloud platforms (Azure, AWS), Monitoring tools (Splunk, CloudWatch), DevOps technologies (ADO, Ansible, Artifactory, Jenkins, GIT), databases (SQL Server, Postgres, and/or Oracle).
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Strong Communications skills and a high ‘EQ’ with the ability to operate across complex business environments and interested parties up to senior executive level.
- Ability to manage time and work well under pressure.
- Flexibility to align work hours with business processes, e.g., after-hours system deployments.
- Familiarity with Windows Server configurations, security patches, and system integrations.
- Demonstrable Knowledge in the application of modern Service Delivery methods - Site Reliability Engineering to traditional ITIL and understanding of Product Based delivery.
- Experience in Change, Incident and Problem management tools such as Service Now or Remedy.
- Embraces a culture of change and agility with an ability to adapt and work well with a fast-moving team in a complex business environment.
- Emphasizes the importance of production operations standards, documentation & Audit requirements.
- Experience with configuration and organizational change, monitoring, and trending.
- Understanding of automation practices throughout the development, build, and deployment phases of the application life cycle.
- Working with a hybrid team of delivery resources (internal & external) across geographies.
Desirable Criteria
- Familiarity with trading, specifically US retail power market and associated products.
- Broader development experience in one or more object-oriented programming languages (e.g. C#, .NET, Python, Java, C/C++).
- Competency in software development tools (e.g. Visual Studio, VS Code, Chrome Dev Tools).
- Experience with Large Language Models (LLMs) and techniques for LLM alignment and fine-tuning for developing and deploying AI agents and applications.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Azure DevOps (ADO), Jenkins or GitLab.
- Project Management experience delivering IT led projects.
- Broad experience contributing and collaborating to assist design, plan, implement, maintain, and document services and solutions.
- Understanding of security guidelines: A DevOps Engineer should have an understanding of security bestproceduresthe cloud and be able to implement security controls such as network security groups, firewalls, and identity and access management.

- Metrics definition and Instrumentation - The development and operation of a measurement capability to support agreed organizational information needs. The planning, implementation, and control of activities to measure attributes of processes, products, and services in order to assess performance, progress, and provide indications and insights to actual or potential problems, issues, and risks.
- Service operations and resiliency - The ability to build and operate services and applications at scale with automation to maintain high levels of availability. To do this, a combination of activities are required from the initial design and sizing of the infrastructure, network, and constituent components to determine throughput (# of transactions/requests, users) through to service health metrics, monitoring, alarming, and remediation. Each of these areas will combine human effort (e.g., a human is paged) as well as automated steps and tools to reduce operational burden and overhead.
- Source control and code management - The practice of tracking and managing changes to code to help to resolve conflicts when merging contributions from multiple sources. This includes the use of protocols such as using pull requests and trunk-based development, running automated testing and static analysis pre-commit, and preventing build breaks through automation/rollbacks.
- Testing and Quality Assurance - Measure and maintain a high level of code quality from development through deployment to production. This includes automated and manual testing, including but not limited to: unit testing, static analysis, functional testing, UI testing, load testing, chaos testing. Testing should be done throughout the development lifecycle (agile) rather than being reserved to a specific achievement (waterfall).
