Business Investment Senior Manager

Role Overview

Financial Modeling specialist – Business Investments will play a substantial role in across the Customer & Products portfolio. This role is responsible for the development of complex financial models, investment appraisals, and valuation frameworks to support strategic decisions across refineries, midstream logistics, pipelines, retail fuel stations, wholesale, and convenience formats.

You will operate as a strategic partner to global teams across the US, UK, and Australia/NZ, ensuring high‑quality insights, and recommendations that drive value, performance, and growth.

Key Accountabilities

  • Investment & Valuation - Lead investment appraisals, financial modelling, and value forecasting. Conduct valuations for M&A, JV structures, co‑investment vs. buy decisions, and business opportunities.
  • Financial Modeling & Analytics - Build financial, operational, and market models using excel, Power Query/Power Pivot). Develop automated, visual dashboards using Power BI and/or Tableau. Perform data analysis and analytics driving insights for leadership decision making.
  • Commercial Performance & Portfolio - Develop performance frameworks, scorecards, and variance analysis to improve asset and portfolio returns. Recommend optimization opportunities based on commercial data, value drivers, and market trends. Support coordinated planning cycles including AOP, long‑range planning, and strategic reviews.
  • Market & Competitive Intelligence - Analyze market, regulatory, and competitor trends across India, US, Europe, and Australia/NZ. Evaluate efficiency, margin, pricing, channel behavior, and customer/product trends relevant to bp’s retail businesses.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration - Work closely with global teams across finance, strategy, operations, supply & midstream, and retail/convenience. Prepare investment papers, executive presentations, and leadership‑ready materials.
  • Governance & Operational Improvement - Maintain meticulous documentation, audit standards, and modeling controls. Enhance bp’s investment methodologies, modeling templates, and post‑investment review processes.

Essential Experience & Requirements

Professional Experience

  • Proven track record in financial modeling, investment appraisal, valuation, or commercial strategy.
  • Experience in consulting, transaction advisory, audit/assurance, M&A, or deal valuation preferred.
  • Exposure to industrial, downstream, retail fuel, convenience, midstream, logistics, or broader energy sectors highly advantageous.

Technical Skills

  • Advanced Excel (Power Query, Power Pivot; VBA a plus).
  • Expertise with Power BI, Tableau, and data visualization/storytelling tools.
  • Strong modeling capabilities: return on investment analysis, scenario/sensitivity modelling, NPV/IRR calculations.
  • Ability to handle large datasets and perform data wrangling.

Business & Strategic Skills

  • Strong commercial competence with understanding of margin, unit economics, throughput, and value drivers.
  • Ability to translate financial insights into strategic recommendations.
  • Experience in asset economics, capital allocation, and risk-adjusted return analysis.

Education & Certifications

  • Education in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
  • Professional qualification (CFA or equivalent experience, CA, CPA) strongly preferred.
