Job Description:

Part of bp’s Technology organization, Intelligence, Security and Crisis Management (ISC) provides geopolitical insight, security protection, and crisis preparedness across all businesses. The Crisis & Continuity Management (CCM) function ensures global readiness by assessing risks, managing emergency response barriers, and enabling effective crisis response.

Reporting to the SVP ISC, this role delivers best-in-class CCM and Emergency Response (ER) services, safeguarding personnel, assets, and operations worldwide. You will lead a high-performing team, drive global CCM and ER capability, and play a key role in ISC leadership.

As VP C&CM, you will set the direction for crisis management across bp, integrating planning, prioritization, governance, and business continuity into global operations. Provide strategic leadership to deployed teams and SMEs, standardizing methodologies and ensuring OMS compliance to deliver efficiency and value aligned with ISC’s strategy.

To be successful you will:

  • Provide strategic leadership of a globally diverse portfolio, ensuring effective crisis, continuity, and emergency response management across bp’s operations.
  • Lead your team to deliver specialised technical expertise, providing customized and effective response solutions for sophisticated business requirements.
  • Oversee peer reviews and assurance activities for mitigation barriers, ensuring timely implementation of gap closure plans to support the business.
  • Ensure timely delivery of high-quality response resources to the business whenever required, supporting effective and consistent crisis management across operations.
  • Ensure the provision of subject matter expert (SME) to support business incident investigations, utilising the 5 WHY process for events with elements connected to our SME and response capabilities.
  • Contribute as a key member of the ISC leadership team, driving the effective delivery of ISC strategy and initiatives.
  • Create robust partnerships with bp Solutions, S&ORA, HSE&C, Process Safety, and Fire Protection Engineering to ensure CCM & ER strategies are effectively aligned with objectives.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive oversight and management of the team’s budget, effective allocation and utilisation of resources to support operational objectives and strategic priorities.
  • Consistently foster alignment and understanding among diverse cultural and linguistic groups.
  • Exhibit initiative, self-motivation, and enthusiasm, complemented by excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Communicate with clarity, precision, and influence in both written and verbal formats.
  • Lead a geographically dispersed team of response professionals, including those with global roles, driving high standards of performance, delivery, and professional development.
  • Work with project teams in bp solutions and in business to ensure appropriate tactical response and crisis management input, oversight, and delivery.
  • Provide regular assessments and updates to senior business leaders in ISC, and the broader business on response risks, major events, and their impact on business continuity and operational resilience.

Essential experience and job requirements:

Team Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire geographically dispersed teams of crisis and tactical response professionals, fostering collaboration and high performance across diverse portfolios and challenges.

Crisis Management & Emergency Management: Extensive experience leading crisis management and emergency response team programmes in complex, high-risk environments, including direct incident response and operational support.

Strategic Influence & Budget Management: Comfortable participating in senior leadership meetings and influencing budget decisions to secure capital and operational expenditure required for programme delivery.

Incident Response Expertise: Significant experience leading tactical response to incidents (Fire, Rescue, Hazmat, Spill) and managing operational response in an operating business, with a strong background of delivering results.

High-Quality Communication: Ability to produce clear, high-quality materials to communicate complex information to varied audiences, including executive leadership.

Facilitation & Engagement: Experience leading and facilitating discussions, meetings, and briefings for a variety of audiences, including senior executives and cross-functional teams.

Matrixed Organisation Navigation: Validated capability to lead through influence in a matrixed organisation, managing complexity and driving alignment in critical situations.

Emergency Response Agility: Demonstrated ability to handle fast-paced situations and respond effectively to emergencies, maintaining composure and delivering decisive action.

Agile Methodologies: Awareness of agile methodologies and tools, with experience applying agile principles to enhance crisis and response management programmes.

Digital & Analytical Competence: Strong digital literacy, with experience using technology and data analytics to enhance response readiness and operational resilience.

Relevant Qualifications:

Degree or equivalent experience professional qualifications in emergency management, fire engineering, crisis management, or related field; professional certifications (e.g., ICS, NFPA) highly desirable.

Significant breadth and depth of experience.
