The Senior SME is responsible for end-to-end execution of BEPS Pillar Two compliance returns, including the UK GloBE Income & Top-Up Tax (IIR) calculations and Qualified Domestic Minimum Top-Up Tax (QDMTT) submissions. The role will act as a subject matter expert (SME) and super-user of the Pillar Two compliance engine, ensuring accurate, timely, and audit-ready submissions across jurisdictions while building internal capability and contributing to BAU operationalisation
Job Responsibilities :
Pillar Two Compliance Execution
- Prepare and submit the annual IIR return to HMRC and all relevant QDMTT returns to other national authorities in accordance with fiscal year timelines.
- Implement full UK MTT calculations and top-up tax determinations for jurisdictions failing Safe Harbour, progressively scaling to all entities (>2000) from FY27 onwards.
- Implement complex QDMTT calculations for jurisdictions failing Safe Harbour, scaling over time as new regimes are enacted.
- Capture and implement all elections, inclusions/exclusions, and other calculation decisions within the Pillar Two Engine.
Data Management & Engine Super-User
- Become a subject matter expert and super-user of PwC’s Pillar Two Engine.
- Understand, capture, and validate all input and output data requirements, engaging with Finance, FBT, Tax, Technology, and Co. Sec. teams to identify and source data efficiently.
- Ensure all data for constituent entities in scope is accurate, complete, and traceable for each fiscal year.
- Maintain and evolve data processes, automation, and documentation to support future BAU operations.
Stakeholder Engagement & BAU Enablement
- Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure Pillar Two compliance aligns with group and statutory accounting, deferred tax calculations, and direct tax filings.
- Collaborate with the Change Lead to capture findings from annual returns to inform future BAU process design, roles, responsibilities, and automation opportunities.
- Build capability and capacity within a dedicated FBT team, mentoring teams to support growing jurisdictional scope.
- Act as the point of expertise for Pillar Two compliance requirements and provide guidance to internal collaborators as regulations and organisational scope evolve.
Data Volume, Complexity & Fragmentation
- Managing hundreds of data inputs per entity across 80+ jurisdictions (>2000 entities) is highly complex.
- Data is spread across multiple ERPs, reporting systems, and local sources, requiring careful validation and traceability.
Complexity of Pillar Two Calculations
- Performing full UK MTT and QDMTT calculations under evolving rules involves detailed understanding of elections, inclusions/exclusions, and jurisdictional nuances.
- Misinterpretation or calculation errors could result in non-compliance or material tax exposure.
Evolving Regulatory Environment & Jurisdictional Scope
- Rules and safe harbour thresholds are changing annually, with new jurisdictions and entities coming into scope over time.
- The role must continuously update processes and engine configurations to reflect regulatory changes accurately.
Stakeholder Coordination Across Functions & Geographies
- Alignment is required with Group Tax, Finance, FBT, Co. Sec., Technology teams, and external advisors.
- Misalignment risks delays, inconsistent data, or rework, particularly as the number of jurisdictions and entities grows.
Transitioning Knowledge to Scalable BAU Operations
- Beyond annual return preparation, the role must build internal capability, document processes, and support automation to enable a sustainable, SSC-owned BAU model.
- Embedding lessons learned into future operations while maintaining high accuracy under tight deadlines is a significant challenge.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional qualification preferably in tax, accounting or finance or recognised professional accounting qualification (e.g. ACCA, CPA, CIMA or MIA).
- Proven experience of delivering and managing complex financial compliance
- Strong organisational, process and data management skills, detail oriented and the ability to anticipate risks or issues. Ability to understand complex concepts, and then effectively communicate to collaborators in a concise and impactful manner.
- Ability to influence and collaborate with collaborators across multiple fields, cultures and geographies, across organizational boundaries and levels within bp and with suppliers.
- Minimum of 10+ years of combined Big-4 public accounting and multinational corporate experience in statutory reporting and/or direct tax or tax accounting.
Preferred Criteria
- Proven experience in global tax compliance, preferably with BEPS Pillar Two, IIR, or QDMTT regimes.
- Strong expertise in complex tax calculations, data management, and compliance engine systems.
- Ability to work across multiple jurisdictions and coordinate with finance, tax, and technology teams.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Experience in mentoring and developing a small technical team is advantageous.
- Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple deliverables under tight timelines
