Job Description:
Procurement Category Senior Manager provides strategic category leadership for key categories at bp and is accountable for end-to-end management of global categories.
Responsible for fostering end to end category operational excellence, leading teams who manage supply chain risk and maximize value, including sustainability, within their category. Through extensive collaboration across and beyond procurement, including with regional, business, and FB&T resources. This ensures their category operates end to end with high effectiveness.
A strategic problem solver who leads development of exceptional executable category strategies to meet business objectives and ensures competitive procurement outcomes. They ensure that strong category guidance is established for efficient execution across complex categories.
Cultivate partnerships to deliver step changes in 3rd party spend management. High commercial competence ensuring alignment with business goals and delivering secure optimal, compliant, and competitive, risk-managed procurement outcomes.
A transformational leader, adept at change management, who builds high performing teams through displaying emotional understanding and fostering resilience.
The category teams directly influence delivery of the business / entity financial plans and the overall value delivery of Finance – procurement, and are accountable for ensuring a safe, risk managed, sustainable and competitive supply chain.
Oversee the $1bn+ global spend associated with Retail Assets for our customer businesses, in categories including equipment, maintenance, construction and truck services!
Key Accountabilities:
Category Strategy leadership: Lead the category team developing and executing transformational procurement strategies, aligned with business needs, which ensures their category operates highly effectively end to end.
Category excellence: Demonstrate data led ownership of the end-to-end performance of the category, working with delivery and FB&T teams to develop category management plans that allow efficient end to end category management reflecting business / region specific context such as laws, tax, market conditions, contractor safety and local content.
Transformational Leadership and Change Management: Lead major change initiatives, which deliver incremental value to business through ensuring supplier performance in a dynamic environment.
Team leadership: Build high performing teams by fostering a culture of collaboration, excellence, and continuous improvement. Their team has strong technical skills and lead the category across procurement and the broader organisation.
Supplier & Stakeholder Management: Communicates using impactful storytelling, respectfully challenging to achieve the right outcomes, resolving conflict and focusing on priorities.
Skills and experience:
Education:
- Degree educated - something related to Procurement preferred - or equivalent relevant professional experience
- Post graduate qualification related to procurement desirable
Functional knowledge:
- In-depth demonstrable understanding of advanced category management principles and theories. Extensive experience in developing and deploying category strategies within large corporate categories (retail assets, facilities management or other operational categories preferred)
- Experience in leading global teams in thinking strategically to uncover insights, unlock value, and drive innovation whilst ensuring safe, reliable operations.
Business expertise:
- Exemplary communication and influencing skills
- Critical thinking with excellent commercial foresight
- An understanding of working in and navigating sophisticated multi-national businesses
- Experience leading teams in safety critical environments, in particular ensuring contractor safety is embedded into category delivery.
Leadership:
- Leadership experience in category management in a procurement organisation with end to end execution of the category strategy across the organisation
- Role model shaping work delivery, decision making and partnering with collaborators
- An advocate for our code, they incorporate the Operating Management System (OMS) and our safety leadership principles into strategies and everyday work, to build a purposeful, winning and caring culture which engenders collaboration, learning and constructive challenge
Problem solving:
- The role requires conceptual thinking, for instance, to match market capability/disruption with business requirements and develop the strategic options for the category, alongside critical thinking to make informed strategic decisions
- The ability to evaluate innovative solutions and manage risk
- Judgement to translate business requirements into a strategic category plan, leading the team to identify and use relevant data sources, apply advanced data tools and platforms to access and analyse complex data sets
Interpersonal skills:
- Strong interpersonal skills for leading the category team, leading the category organization-wide, and engaging with global, diverse senior partners.
- Regular interaction with external suppliers and representing bp externally are expected
- Effective change management and is key to success, requiring exceptional influencing, engagement and storytelling abilities
- Persevering through organizational complexity and resistance to change, key to leading transformational change
