Role: Communications Manager, Gas & Low Carbon Energy

Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Communications Manager to lead communications strategies for our Gas & Low Carbon Energy portfolio. This role will be instrumental in shaping our narrative, engaging stakeholders, and supporting BP's transition to a net-zero future.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute comprehensive communications strategies and plans for BP's Gas & Low Carbon Energy businesses, aligning with overall company objectives and market trends.
  • Manage and mitigate reputational risks and issues related to gas and low carbon energy activities through effective issues and policy management.
  • Champion advocacy efforts, building positive relationships with key external stakeholders, including policymakers, industry bodies, and community groups.
  • Drive employee engagement initiatives within the Gas & Low Carbon Energy teams, encouraging a culture of clear communication and shared purpose.
  • Create compelling and impactful content across various digital and traditional communication channels, utilizing strong writing and digital communication skills.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams, including commercial, technical, and sustainability, to ensure integrated and consistent messaging.
  • Utilize analytical thinking to measure the efficiency of communication campaigns, demonstrating impact and advising future strategies.
  • Apply commercial acumen to understand business objectives and translate them into effective communication approaches.
  • Proactively identify and respond to market trends, adapting communication strategies to maintain BP's leadership position in the energy transition.
  • Practice active listening to understand diverse perspectives and tailor communications accordingly.
  • Influence internal and external audiences through persuasive communication and well-articulated arguments.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Mass Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field. A master’s degree or equivalent experience is a plus.
  • 8-10 Years of Proven experience in an Internal and external communications, Journalism and Social Media, ideally within the energy sector or a similarly complex industry.
  • Demonstrable expertise in advocacy, issues management, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Strong understanding of agility core practices in a communications context.
  • Outstanding analytical thinking skills with a track record of creating and measuring communication impact.
  • Excellent collaboration and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively across diverse teams and senior leadership.
  • Highly developed commercial competence and an understanding of the business drivers within the energy sector.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on digital communication strategies.
  • Proven track record to drive employee engagement initiatives.
  • Familiarity with current market trends in gas and low carbon energy.
