Job Description:

The Eastern Hemisphere Asia Pacific Exploration Team is looking for a Senior Geoscience (Geologist/Geophysicist) interpreter to support the exploration agenda of bringing forward exploration and appraisal opportunities that make valuable contributions to bp.

bp will remain as a major hydrocarbon producer for several decades and exploration being a key part of its strategy to maintain the required hydrocarbons production that funds the energy transition. Its global exploration drilling program, consisting of 15 to 20 exploration wells annually worldwide, will focus on key markets and hubs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Responsible in characterizing the subsurface, developing prospect and lead inventories and maturing prospects for drilling.

• Lead exploration strategy and prospect maturation across Asia Pacific.

• Provide technical mentor junior staff, and influence investment decisions through high-quality subsurface evaluations.

• Support bp’s exploration agenda and deliver opportunities to the corporation that supply and meet investment thresholds and metrics.

• Involve working across a wide range of geological settings with varied datasets.

• Interpret a variety of datasets to deliver prospect and lead inventories and mature select candidates (including probabilistic volumetric assessments and prospect risking) through to drill ready status. Undertaking more regional work will also be required to high grade potential basins and areas for more detailed study.

• Products will be completed in line with Exploration Common Process, and their completion will include an appropriate level of peer review. Final products will be digital and documented in consistent manner following bp standard process.

• The Asia Pacific Exploration team operate a flexible and agile operating model where people work on the best and highest value opportunities. Future projects could be working anywhere across the eastern hemisphere exploration portfolio.

• Coach and mentor team members to build technical capability.

• Work with the Indonesia exploration manager and Indonesia exploration team besides the Asia Pacific Exploration Manager (Eastern hemisphere exploration team lead) and local region-based geoscientists and management.

• Engage with global technical assurance teams to ensure quality and consistency of deliverables.

• Collaborates with commercial and operational partners to ensure alignment with corporate objectives.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Geoscience (Geology/Geophysics); advanced technical training preferred.

• Proven working experience in exploration across diverse basins and depositional systems.

• A robust understanding of petroleum geology fundamentals with experience of a range of different basins and depositional system settings.

• A desire to work in a creative interpretation environment will be beneficial. Comfortable working across multiple time zones in an agile and flexible manner.

• Oversee data improvement plans.

• Good communication skills both one-to-one and working remotely.

• Collaborative working within teams and with different interested parties.

• A bias for a culture of continuous improvement and seek opportunities to reduce complexity and improve efficiency.

Qualifications:

• Creative, flexible, business orientated attitude and comfortable working with multiple models of the subsurface and working with sometimes limited datasets.

• Driven to develop abilities in assimilating large, complex and multi-dimensional datasets to produce coherent and logical geoscience understanding and conclusions.

• Undertake seismic interpretation and develop integrated models of the subsurface for regions across the Asia Pacific exploration portfolio

• Able to assess the quality the suitability of seismic datasets across the Asia Pacific portfolio and be consulted on data improvement plans.

• Deliver clear and concise prospect descriptions outlining key data quality issues, limitations, assumptions, and uncertainty; support the development of lead and prospect inventories contributing to resource characterization.

• Seek out standard process and coaching to aid focus on the key technical and business issues.

• Support the development of key prospects into ready to drill candidates and support operations during drilling.

• Support post drilling well evaluations ensuring results are appropriately integrated into subsurface models and understanding.

• Strong desire to support the future of bp through creative, value driven exploration supporting the resilient hydrocarbons' agenda.
