Job Description:

A career in Productions & Operations (P&O) organization is an opportunity to help shape the future of bp. The Eastern Hemisphere Asia Pacific Exploration Team is looking for a Geoscience (Geologist/Geophysicist) interpreter to support the exploration agenda of bringing forward exploration and appraisal opportunities that make valuable contributions to bp. You will be responsible for characterizing the subsurface, developing prospect and lead inventories and maturing prospects for drilling.

bp will remain as a major hydrocarbon producer for several decades and exploration being a key part of its strategy to maintain the required hydrocarbons production that funds the energy transition. Its global exploration drilling program, consisting of 15 to 20 exploration wells annually worldwide, will focus on key markets and hubs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support bp’s exploration agenda and deliver opportunities to the corporation that make valuable contributions and meet investment thresholds and metrics.

  • Involve working across a wide range of geological settings with varied datasets.

  • Interpret a variety of datasets to deliver prospect and lead inventories and mature select candidates (including probabilistic volumetric assessments and prospect risking) through to drill ready status. Undertaking more regional work will also be required to high grade potential basins and areas for more detailed study.

  • Products will be completed in line with Exploration Common Process, and their completion will include an appropriate level of peer review. Final products will be digital and documented in a manner consistent with bp standard process.

  • The Asia Pacific Exploration team operate a flexible and agile operating model where people work on the best and highest value opportunities. Future projects could be working anywhere across the eastern hemisphere exploration portfolio.

  • Work closely with the Indonesia exploration manager and Indonesia exploration team besides the Asia Pacific Exploration Manager (Eastern hemisphere exploration team lead) and local region-based geoscientists and management.

  • Engage with global technical assurance teams to ensure quality and consistency of deliverables.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Geoscience (Geology/Geophysicist) or related field.

  • Proven working experience in exploration projects across multiple basins.

  • Strong skills in seismic interpretation, prospect risking, and volumetric analysis.

  • Experience in AVO/DHI evaluation and integration of geophysical-geological workflows.

  • Ability to work independently and lead technical discussions within multi-disciplinary teams.

Qualifications:

  • You will undertake seismic interpretation and develop integrated models of the subsurface for regions across the Asia Pacific exploration portfolio.

  • You will assess the quality the suitability of seismic datasets across the Asia Pacific portfolio and be consulted on data improvement plans.

  • You will deliver clear and concise prospect descriptions outlining key data quality issues, limitations, assumptions, and uncertainty; you will support the development of lead and prospect inventories contributing to resource characterization.

  • You will seek out best practice and coaching to aid focus on the key technical and business issues.

  • You will support the development of key prospects into ready to drill candidates and support operations during drilling.

  • You will support post drilling well evaluations ensuring results are appropriately integrated into subsurface models and understanding.
