This position is on a 12 months fixed term.
The MC&M Operational Excellence Manager is a leadership role that is responsible for the successful execution of retail Operational Excellence that encompass tools, systems, policies and procedures, communications and training programs as well as execution of key operational activities. This role will ensure our retail Operational Excellence team operates smoothly and helps our retail business to consistently deliver its priorities.
As a senior member of the ANZ operations business, you will be leading a team across ANZ and our Business Technology Centre in Pune, India ensuring we continuously improve and implement our offers to the highest standard and build our execution capability across the organisation. You will be making critical recommendations to leadership through complex operational lenses to ensure strategic alignment across different parts of the organisation.
The role covers various areas of operational excellence including, retail site procedures and communications, labour productivity, convenience supply chain, implementing digital initiatives, delivering site cost efficiencies and handling outsourced site service contracts.
You are responsible for fostering a culture of ‘excellence’ and ‘collaboration’ amongst different teams playing a pivotal role in decision making for what’s best for the bp customer and teams.
You will report to the VP Operations, be a key member of the Operations Leadership Team, and lead and inspire a large team of varied operational professionals.
Responsibilities
- Lead a large, multi-disciplinary operational team across ANZ and Pune, India, covering retail supply chain, trading services, workforce productivity, digital enablement, operations excellence, and retail communications.
- Drive efficient, optimized operations to enable P&L delivery for M&C businesses in Australia and New Zealand.
- Own relationships with M&C leadership to deliver cost efficiencies across major budget categories, including site labour, utilities, and outsourced retail services. Ensure team activities meet planned targets.
- Plan and implement programs that reduce risk and enhance efficiency through simplification and technology improvements.
- Monitor, review, and report retail operations metrics, and lead improvement plans aligned with strategy.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across ANZ and supporting functions to ensure consistent delivery of customer and operational priorities with a safety-first culture.
- Establish a culture of operational excellence by improving effectiveness, acting on feedback, optimizing costs, and enabling retail strategy delivery across ANZ.
- Communicate and engage effectively across the ANZ business through multiple channels, balancing formal business-critical updates with team engagement.
- Ensure the ANZ retail business operates safely, consistently, and compliantly across all fields.
Essential Experience, Job Requirements & Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Operations Management, Supply Chain, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- Familiarity with retail compliance, safety standards, and risk management.
- Proficiency in digital tools and platforms that enable operational efficiency.
- Validated leadership of large, multi-disciplinary operational teams across geographies.
- Background in retail operations, supply chain, digital delivery or sales.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver cost efficiencies and handle large budgets.
- Experience driving operational excellence through simplification, process improvement, and technology adoption
- Critical thinking with a focus on P&L impact and operational optimization.
- Exceptional stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving capabilities to monitor and improve performance metrics.
- Excellent communication skills for engaging diverse audiences across multiple channels.
- 10% of travels will be required.
