Role Overview:

The Senior Commercial Shipping Optimization Manager is a strategic leader responsible for driving commercial optimization across the global shipping fleet. This role bridges commercial strategy and operational execution, ensuring efficiency, profitability, and sustainability. You will lead initiatives to improve vessel performance, optimize voyage and fuel costs, and handle claims efficiently, while championing digitalization and process simplification for better clarity and decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and implement the commercial optimization strategy aligned with organizational goals.
  • Optimize voyages end-to-end, including route planning, fuel management, and cost control.
  • Ensure timely and robust claims management to improve cost recovery.
  • Monitor voyage performance, establish performance indicators, and benchmark against industry standards.
  • Drive innovation through pilot projects, digital tools, and process improvements.
  • Collaborate with emissions optimization teams to meet sustainability targets and regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee fuel procurement strategies and supplier relationships for cost and quality optimization.
  • Build and lead a high-performing, multidisciplinary team, encouraging collaboration and growth.
  • Partner with technical, digital, and commercial teams for unified delivery of objectives.
  • Engage with external collaborators to stay ahead of industry trends and standard methodologies adopted.

Essential Experience:

  • Validated leadership in commercial shipping with global fleet optimization experience.
  • Expertise in voyage planning, fuel management, cost control, and claims processes.
  • Strong understanding of critical performance metrics, benchmarking, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Background as a sea-going mariner or recent commercial shipping experience (voyage operations or chartering).

Desirable Experience:

  • Strong skills to navigate constructively the stakeholders internally & externally.
  • Knowledge of compliance, risk management, and governance frameworks.
  • Familiarity with vessel performance technologies and digital optimization platforms.
