Let me tell you about the role
Job Synopsis
The HSE Self-Verification Senior Advisor leads the continuous improvement of bp’s global self-verification (SV) practices, acts as a business SME, oversees the global SV digital tool, and supports businesses in generating insights from SV—including the application of AI technologies. The role ensures SV is robust, data-driven, and aligned with bp’s risk management and operating management system requirements.
What is Self-Verification at bp?
Self-verification (SV) at bp is a risk-based programme of planned activities that assess, document, and report whether Operating Management System (OMS) practices, procedures, and processes are effective and being followed as intended. SV is bp’s “first line of defence” in risk management, ensuring that “work done” matches “work imagined” and that risks are controlled at the frontline. Unlike audits (which are independent, third-line checks), SV is performed by those closest to the work—providing real-time assurance, early detection of gaps, and driving continuous improvement.
What you will deliver
Continuous Improvement of SV Practices
- Drive the evolution and simplification of global SV processes, protocols, and standards.
- Identify and implement best practices, leveraging lessons learned and new technologies (including AI).
Business SME Support
- Provide expert guidance to business entities on SV planning, execution, and learning.
- Support capability building for SV practitioners and promote a culture of proactive risk management.
Oversight of the Global SV Digital Tool
- Serve as product owner for the SV digital platform, ensuring it meets business needs and enables efficient, consistent SV execution.
- Oversee tool enhancements, user support, and integration of new features (e.g., AI-driven analytics).
Insight Generation and Reporting
- Enable businesses to generate actionable insights from SV data, supporting management reviews and operational decision-making.
- Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and analytics to track SV performance and identify improvement opportunities.
Governance and Alignment
- Ensure SV activities are aligned with OMS 8.2 requirements and bp’s three lines of defence model.
- Collaborate with assurance, audit, and risk teams to ensure SV complements other assurance activities.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Engage with global and regional HSE&C teams, digital teams, and business leaders to embed SV in operational routines.
- Represent bp in internal and external forums on SV and related topics.
