Job Description:

The Land Negotiator will be responsible for integration with various functions within Gulf of America and management of external relationships in support of the region’s aims and ambitions with a primary focus on supporting GoA production assets. This will be done by negotiating material deals in line with business priorities, and providing strategic and contractual guidance to multi-discipline teams on commercial and counterparty issues. The Land Negotiator will also be the subject matter expert for all joint venture agreements.

Key Accountabilities

  • Partner with business teams on negotiations, structuring of new agreements and interpreting existing agreements to maximize BP’s value and mitigate risk
  • Supports delivery of development plans by deeply understanding agreements critical to the success of the asset and cultivation of co-owner relationships
  • Resolve commercial and contractual issues on bp operated and non-operated assets while effectively managing counterparty relationships
  • Interface and manage relationships with various internal partners including finance, legal, tax, regulatory and technical functions
  • Provides critical support to asset teams regarding agreement interpretation and application of Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) and Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) regulations

Essential Education

  • Degree in Business, Engineering, Energy Management, Petroleum Land Management, JD, or related degree required

Essential Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years land/commercial negotiation experience, deepwater Gulf of America strongly preferred
  • AAPL member required; RL, RPL or CPL preferred
  • Knowledge of common offshore agreements including but not limited to leases, Joint Operating Agreements, Participation Agreements, Purchase and Sale agreements, Production Handling Agreements required
  • Proven, effective communicator with ability to influence and build alignment with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Familiarity with economic processes and strong analytical abilities to understand and evaluate complex issues
  • Manage multiple priorities with a strong track record of delivery

Desirable Criteria

  • Familiarity with deepwater Gulf of America and Canada Business
  • Familiarity with BOEM and BSEE regulations
