Job Description:

Role Purpose

The Industrial Hygienist is a health protection professional responsible for defining and delivering the hub’s Industrial Hygiene (IH) plan, aligned with bp’s health strategy and local business priorities. This role ensures safe, reliable, and compliant operations by establishing, implementing, and maintaining IH processes, procedures, and plans.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop and implement IH programmes, standards, and practices aligned with bp’s health strategy and business priorities.

  • Lead assessments of work-related health risks (chemical, physical, biological, ergonomic) and advise on prevention and control measures.

  • Drive sustained implementation of Health Risk Assessment (HRA), Health Impact Assessment (HIA), and Health Surveillance advised by exposure monitoring.

  • Develop and implement the hub exposure assessment plan.

  • Ensure IH compliance and conduct verification audits at site, business, or hub level.

  • Implement bp’s IH digital tools for hazard and risk management and exposure monitoring.

  • Supervise IH performance metrics and drive continuous improvement.

  • Mentor and coach IH teams within the health hub.

  • Act as informed buyer for third-party IH services and supervise delivery.

  • Integrate IH practices into emergency response and crisis management plans.

  • Engage with regulators, external bodies, and NGOs for IH advocacy.

  • Maintain accurate IH records in line with regulatory and bp requirements.

  • Apply business and financial metrics to prioritize IH risks and demonstrate long-term value

Education

  • Level 6 qualification (e.g., BSc, BOHS CertOH, OHTACertOH) in Industrial or Occupational Hygiene.

  • Membership or certification from a recognized professional body.

Essential Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in Industrial Hygiene, preferably in oil and gas or related industries.

  • Proven record in delivering IH programmes and leading compliance.

  • Solid understanding of health, safety, and welfare regulations and bp operational standards.

Desirable Criteria

  • Excellent communication and collaborator engagement skills.

  • Ability to make sound decisions in sophisticated situations using technical expertise.

  • Proactive approach to emerging health risks and continuous improvement.

  • Strong understanding of bp’s structure and cultural diversity.


Travel Requirement

Up to 10% travel should be expected with this role
