OCT engineer supports the region, across all fields of operations critical telecommunication engineering, and will have skills to define the operation and maintenance requirements of OCT systems, resolve sophisticated technical issues associated to OCT solutions, with significant experience in OCT invent and maintenance and master practitioner of applicable industry standards and practices.
What you will deliver
- Provide OCT engineering technical support to the regional operations team to deliver safe, compliant, reliable and efficient operations
- Maintain operational licenses and certificates for bp owned and operated communication solutions
- Support development of capability and competence of site-based Telecoms Technicians
- Act as the Equipment Class Owner (ECO) for OCT systems and handle barrier performance
- Assess the condition of OCT equipment using surveillance, maintenance, data and metrics
- Develop and/or update equipment strategies, PMRs, repair strategies and sparing
- Review equipment deferrals
- Participate in investigations to identify root causes and embed findings.
- Maintain asset integrity management strategies and practices
- Develop and own OCT obsolescence strategy
- Contribute to the hazard & risk management activities
- Ensure that local policies, technical practices, engineering standards are implemented and that there is compliance with regulations and codes relevant to OCT engineering
- Ensure engineering documentation is managed and updated
- Perform the role of contract accountable manager (CAM) for OCT contracts
- Performance manages telecom support contractor delivery of maintenance activities
- Support forecast and issue draft budgets for OCT scope
- Lead technical interfaces, particularly with bp digital (IT) function
- Work on brownfield replacement projects and implementation of new technologies
- Write OCT engineering proposals and supervise development of OCT installation, commissioning, and test plans.
What you will need to be successful
Must have educational qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g., Electronics, Electrical, Computer, IT, Telecommunications)
Preferred education/certifications:
- Chartered engineer, professional engineer, or a national equivalent
- BOSIET & MIST certified for offshore deployment
Minimum years of relevant experience:
8 years in oil and gas/petrochemical/refining/chemical or equivalent with 5 or more years in Production
Total years of experience:
12-20 Years
Must have experiences/skills (To be hired with):
- Strong technical knowledge and experience of engineering, operation and maintenance of operations critical telecommunication systems, including solving support, reliability, obsolescence and equipment lifecycle issues
- Knowledge of industry and international standards and practices
- Solid understanding of risk analysis and management of change techniques
- Experience working in multicultural environments
- Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with individuals across levels
- Proficient in spoken and written English communication skills
- Good to have experiences/skills (Can be trained for – learning/on-the-job).
- Advanced knowledge of industry, government standards and practices
- Oil & Gas operations experience as a telecom engineer
- Experience of collaborating closely with operations personnel
- Experience with advanced telecommunications operation and maintenance
- Experience of agile team management processes
- Experience working in the offshore environment
- Experience of working as part of a remote team with a collaborative approach to delivery and people management in some cases
- Track record of engaging across teams and functions to deliver engineering improvements centrally
- A consistent track record of accomplishment in risk management, process safety management and contractor performance management
- Consistent record of accomplishment in delivering results under pressure .
