The TSI Process Support Engineer directly supports the Unit Process Engineer(s) in delivery of base accountabilities and continuous improvement opportunities. They will typically be dedicated to a specific Asset area for their primary focus for support, project, and backfilling opportunities, but depending on business need, may expand their scope beyond one asset as needed. Generally, this position will work under the guidance of a Process Engineering Superintendent(s), Senior Engineer, and Unit Process Engineer(s).
Additionally, the Process Engineer will support various special assignments such as separation studies, complex unit modeling, and catalyst selection.
What you will deliver
- Support Unit Process Engineers with delivery of some of their accountabilities (shown below) as requested:
- Monitor process unit health and unit mass balance.
- Support operations with delivery of the volume plan, identify deviations from intended operation, provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support to close gaps.
- Identify opportunities to optimize unit operation, saturate constraints and continually improve performance. When trade-offs are identified the Engineer raises the issue with the Optimization Engineer to achieve the best economic operation compromise.
- Work with Operations and Reliability Engineers to achieve mechanical availability goals. Participate in Vulnerability Studies and Production Criticality Assessments.
- Support small project development and execution, review and approve project documentation, support construction and commissioning activities including design basis acceptance.
- Participate in routine unit PHA (process hazard analysis) and MOC process. Support risk assessment processes for abnormal operations (ASAP) and Safety System Bypass (SORA).
- Understand potential corrosion and fouling issues within units, work with inspectors to troubleshoot.
- Participate in DMR (damage mechanism reviews) revalidations and IOW (integrity operating windows) process as part of integrity management.
- Support root causes investigations.
- Complete special projects and initiatives that improve overall effectiveness of Process Engineering Team
- Complete projects that cross areas and/or require sustained longer-term focus.
- Assist in process troubleshooting that crosses unit boundaries
- Support Unit Process Engineers (UPEs) in efforts to own, manage and continuously improve Process Engineering Systems, Tools, Models and Processes for their assigned units, including Unit Mass Balance, P&IDs, PFDs, HMBs and Technical Manuals
- Support UPE in efforts to own, manage and continuously improve proactive Unit Health Monitoring (UHM) processes for their assigned units
- Support UPE in implementation initiatives and support projects to improve performance of their assigned units through reducing operating costs, increasing margin, and reducing risk.
What you will need to be successful
Must have educational qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical engineering or related degree/discipline

Must have experiences/skills (To be hired with):
- A minimum of 8 years of refining experience in technical, engineering, operations, maintenance
- Direct experience with desktop computer applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Ability to function comfortably and effectively in the roles of individual contributor and collaborative team member.
- A strong focus on action, a dedication to performance delivery, and an eye for accuracy and detail.
- Monitoring real time plant data using tools like PI, seeq or equivalent.
Good to have experiences/skills (Can be trained for – learning/on-the-job):
- Experience in direct process engineering support for a process unit
- Working knowledge of process equipment and unit operations
- Knowledge of safety systems (SIS-Safety Instrumented Systems, PSV-Process Safety Valves, etc.)
- Experience building and maintaining process models and writing code for health monitoring applications
- Working knowledge of process equipment.
- Strong desire to develop capabilities working with process engineering tools and process modeling software (Hysys, Petro-sim, etc.)
- Hydraulic modelling tools (Fathom or equivalent)
- Heat exchanger modelling (HTRI or equivalent)
- Experience using AI tools
- Experience of Identification of process gaps based on plant performance and optimization to minimize cost, energy.
- Exposure to process safety.
