Job Summary

The Social Performance and Community Liaison Officer (SPCLO) will be responsible for fostering strong, positive relationships between BP Mauritania Investments and local communities. This role is crucial in ensuring our operations are conducted with respect for social impact, stakeholder engagement, and effective communication, thereby contributing to the company's sustainable success.

Job Responsibilities

* Develop and implement community engagement strategies to build and maintain trust with local stakeholders, including community leaders, residents, and government representatives.
* Act as a primary point of contact for community members, addressing concerns, gathering feedback, and facilitating open dialogue on BP's operations and initiatives.
* Monitor and assess the social impact of BP's activities, identifying potential issues and developing mitigation strategies in collaboration with relevant internal teams.
* Lead advocacy efforts on behalf of BP within local communities, ensuring clear and consistent messaging on the company's social performance commitments.
* Collaborate with internal departments (e.g., operations, HSE, external affairs) to integrate social performance considerations into project planning and execution.
* Utilize excellent communication and writing skills to produce reports, presentations, and other materials for both internal and external audiences, detailing community engagement activities and social impact.
* Stay abreast of market trends, social issues, and policy developments relevant to BP's operations in Mauritania, advising management on potential implications.
* Apply agility core practices to adapt to evolving community needs and operational demands, ensuring effective and responsive engagement.
* Contribute to creating and measuring the impact of social performance initiatives, demonstrating value and continuous improvement.
* Support employee engagement activities related to social performance, fostering a culture of responsible community interaction within BP Mauritania Investments.

Job Qualifications

* Proven experience in community relations, social performance, or a similar external affairs role, preferably within the energy sector or in a developing country context.
* Demonstrated ability in **Stakeholder Management**, with a track record of building and maintaining effective relationships with diverse groups.
* Exceptional **Communication** skills, both written and verbal, with a strong emphasis on **Listening** and the ability to convey complex information clearly and empathetically.
* Strong **Analytical Thinking** capabilities to assess social impacts, identify issues, and develop practical solutions.
* Proficiency in **Advocacy** and **Influencing** techniques, with the ability to represent the company effectively and build consensus.
* Experience in **Issues and Policy Management**, understanding how to navigate and respond to community concerns and regulatory landscapes.
* A solid understanding of **Commercial Acumen** and how social performance contributes to business objectives.
* Familiarity with **Digital Communication** tools and strategies for engaging with communities.
* Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment, demonstrating strong **Collaboration** skills.
* A commitment to continuous learning and the application of **Agility core practices**.
* Fluency in English and French is essential; knowledge of local Mauritanian languages is highly desirable.
