Job Description:

The Senior Finance Control Advisor for the Trinidad and Tobago Region is a critical team member reporting into the Senior Finance Control Manager.

The role has accountability for providing oversight over key financial process that are integral to creating a strong accounting, reporting and control environment. Accounting support is / will be provided by FBT Finance (Pune-India) over which this role will provide oversight and assist in their continuing development. The role will also be pivotal in ensuring Finance processes are optimized where they collaborate with wider Finance, Functions, PSCM and Tax teams! There is the opportunity to shape the way in which Accounting, reporting and Control (ARC) support is delivered and how the team works most effectively with the business, central and embedded Planning and Performance Management, Regional Finance and FBT Finance.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provides high quality and effective ARC support, ensuring timely delivery of financial information and effective integration with regional and central ARC, Planning and Performance Management and Business Finance teams.
  • Supports ARC aspects of M&A transactions including input to agreements, functional assurance of ATN’s/FM’s, workstream activities to manage integration, defining plan for handover to regional teams for business-as-usual activities.
  • Demonstrate expertise supporting the Senior Finance Control Manager to deliver the Due Diligence process for the Region including preparation and submission of Consolidated Region Due Diligence, attending Upstream Segment pre and post close calls and coordinating follow up of all policy issues with the Segment Accounting Policy team, including ultimate sign off for impairment reviews and intangible asset certification.
  • Drive the modernization and simplification agenda across the key accounting and control processes.
  • Lead on identifying automation efforts to simplify the embedded finance processes across the Region.
  • Act as the first point of contact to manage relationships with the external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual SOX audit work.
  • Maintain a robust control environment operating across the Region.
  • Manage the collaborator relationship with business, Regional Finance and FBT Finance
  • Provide SME control and technical assurance into business activities, including ARC functional assurance of FM’s/AFEs.
  • Accountable for the compliance, in conjunction with Commercial Operations, with all JV accounting, reporting and control requirements.
  • Work closely with Commercial Operations and Audit Manager to optimize cost recovery.
  • Demonstrate experience developing talent and managing people related issues, both strategic and operational to build ARC ’people’ capability.
  • Works effectively with regional ARC and FBT Finance to understand variance analysis.
  • Manages central business projects with ARC aspects (eg systems implementation).
  • Ensuring timely set up of master data for central ARC activities and other related systems considerations, in conjunction with Planning and Performance Management.
  • Documenting and determining, in conjunction with Technical Accounting team applicable accounting policy considerations for new transactions.
  • Working with Finance teams to ensure accurate accounting treatment in Quarterly Planning Forecasts and supporting in the understanding of variance analysis for quarterly actuals.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Economics or any other equivalent degree.
  • Recognised professional accountancy qualification (ICAEW, ICAS, CIMA or equivalent)

Essential Experience in Oil & Gas

  • 10+ years of relevant financial reporting, internal control or audit experience
  • Experience of bp’s internal control and accounting policy frameworks
  • Ability to manage multiple/conflicting priorities with a strong track record of delivery
  • Strong technical accounting skills in Upstream Oil and Gas
  • Well-developed knowledge of internal control framework
  • Working effectively with ambiguity and fast paced change
  • Adaptable and able to network and build effective relationships
  • Effective integration skills across Finance and non-Finance teams
