Job Description:

Role synopsis
We’re looking for a hands-on Continuous Improvement Leader with a strong mechanical engineering background to accelerate operational perfection across Baton Rouge—the largest Castrol plant in bp. You’ll be responsible for the site’s CI roadmap, using thorough problem solving, structured project management, and frontline engagement to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), reduce losses, and embed sustainable ways of working. The ideal leader pairs credibility on the plant floor with data driven analysis and the difficulty to lock in standards (AM/PM, centerlines, 5S) so improvements endure.
Note on operating subject area: This role is accountable for ensuring improvements are delivered in conformance with bp’s Operating Management System, including alignment to Control of Work and safe work practices.

Key accountabilities
• Be responsible for the site OEE improvement plan across blending and packaging lines: establish loss trees, set targets by line/shift, drive weekly OEE reviews, and translate insights into actionable AM/PM, changeover (SMED), and center lining improvements.
• Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and defect elimination for chronic and acute losses (quality, safety, reliability, and performance), applying 5 Whys/fishbone for minor events and formal RCA methods for significant events; publish learning and close corrective actions. (Reference: bp RCA guidance and workflow)
• Plan and deliver CI projects (OpEx/CapEx enablement) using stage gated execution, clear charters, risk assessments, and benefits tracking; coordinate with Engineering/Maintenance, HSSE, and Operations to deliver safe, on time outcomes. (Reference: bp project/operations readiness guidance)
• Standardize and sustain convert improvements into standards (SOPs, centerlines, CILs, checklists), embed visual management, and verify alignment through leader standard work and line level DDS routines. (Reference: Castrol OMS expectations for Procedures & Practices)
• Drive operating team and safe work execution in partnership with Operations and HSSE, ensuring improvements conform to Control of Work requirements (permits, isolations, MOC, task risk assessment.
• Develop people and culture: coach frontline leaders/technicians in problem solving, statistical thinking, and basic reliability tools; facilitate kaizen events; recognize and scale reapplications across lines/shifts.
• Digital & analytics: partner with data/OEE tool owners to improve data integrity, automate dashboards, and ensure accurate reason coding that enables true loss stratification and action.

Required qualifications & experience
• Education: BS in Mechanical Engineering (or closely related). MS preferred.
• Manufacturing CI leadership: 7+ years in high mix, high throughput operations (FMCG/process/packaging preferred) with a track record of OEE improvement. (Proven knowledge of 12 loss model and data integrity)
• RCA excellence: Proficiency with 5 Whys, fishbone/Ishikawa, and a formal RCA methodology; evidence of closing system causes and reapplying findings.
• Project management: Led multi field projects from charter through startup with clear benefits realization; ability to integrate HSSE reviews and readiness gates.
• Lean/TPM toolkit: SMED, centerlining, standard work, 5S, visual management, AM/PM, mistake proofing (poka yoke).
• Systems & data: Comfortable with OEE systems and BI tools; able to translate data into prioritized actions and verify results.
Operating subject area: Solid understanding of Control of Work / Permit to Work, isolations/LOTO, and Management of Change in an industrial environment.
