Role Synopsis

We are seeking an experienced Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to lead automation design and execution across oil and gas facilities within our Facilities Engineering & Construction team. This role will manage standard automation templates, specify and design instrumentation and control systems, oversee commissioning, and ensure compliance with safety and operational standards. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in RTUs, HMIs, PLCs, SCADA systems, and industrial electrical/instrumentation design.

Key Accountabilities

  • Standard Design
  • Manage standard automation design including procurement, construction, and programming.
  • Maintain ABB TotalFlow RTU, Redlion HMI, and Allen Bradley PLC programming templates. Integrate and verify data with CygNet (SCADA)
  • Specify and purchase instrumentation, metering, control panels, VFDs, etc.
  • Oversee purchasing and supply chain activities: scheduling, ordering, and cost tracking.
  • Maintain instrumentation standards; evaluate alternatives and design impacts.
  • Review equipment RFPs for facilities (separators, heaters, VRUs, Instrument Air skids, etc.).
  • Participate in HAZOP/PHA design reviews.
  • Work closely with Facilities Engineering on design, scheduling, and cost control.
  • Collaborate with Operations for project requirements and operability feedback.
  • Per Pad Execution
  • Develop/review site-specific electrical and instrumentation drawings.
  • Create Cause & Effect diagrams and Allocation Flow Diagrams.
  • Manage and update programming templates for FAT/SAT and coordinate SCADA radio configuration.
  • Collaborate with Field Automation Tech for site configuration.
  • Support RFIs for Electrical, Instrumentation, and Automation programming.
  • RTU/PLC/HMI troubleshooting and configuration support, on-site or remote
  • Coordinate with local utilities for electrical service.
  • Perform site walkdowns and inspections for adherence to construction drawings and NEC standards
  • Commissioning
  • Execute safety system function testing and Cause & Effect validation prior to PSSR
  • Validate CygNet configuration, point to point and alarm setpoint verifications
  • Redline electrical and automation drawings.
  • Provide remote troubleshooting support.
  • Participate in PSSR and manage handover documentation to Ops
  • Track failures for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure accurate measurement and coordinate meter calibrations.

Essential Experience and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering — preferably in Electrical, Instrumentation, Control Systems, or Automation Engineering (or relevant experience)
  • Experience with ABB TotalFlow PCCU programming and Redlion HMI Crimson development.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley PLC programming, RSLogix 5000, Studio 5000
  • Strong knowledge of industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, RS-485).
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems (CygNet)
  • Understanding of NFPA 70 (National Electric Code) and API RP 500.
  • Experience with industrial electrical equipment and oil & gas process equipment.
  • Ability to review P&IDs, PFDs, 3D models and provide feedback to the Facilities Engineering.
  • Ability to translate P&IDs into I/O list, Cause & Effect
  • Knowledge of AGA/API measurement standards for allocations and custody transfer.

Preferred Experience

  • License Professional Engineer (or EIT working towards PE)
  • Familiarity with AVEVA PI Vision
  • SQL, Python and ability to do data analytics using Snowflake
  • Knowledge of corporate and industrial IT network architecture and connectivity principles
  • Knowledge of AGA/API measurement standards for allocations and custody transfer.

How much do we pay (Base) $156,000-$184,000. Note that the pay range listed for this position is a good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible base compensation at the time of posting.
