Job Description:

Responsible for deploying specialist shipping knowledge to lead safe & efficient operations and protect the bp Group business from risk through leading on a range of approval, logistics, inspection, assurance and vessel management activity. The carriage of hydrocarbons by third-party vessels exposes the Group to significant risk, requiring proactive risk management. The purpose of the Vetting & Clearance team is to ensure that any vessel employed meets bp's standards thereby handling this risk. As part of the V&C Team, the Superintendent through their strong expertise in technical marine operations will play a key role in setting mitigating measures as needed to support business delivery in challenging marine environments. They will also lead all aspects of providing assurance to businesses and associates for marine related activities, by performing any combination of routine marine assurance assessments, V&C reviews and providing ad-hoc marine advice support and efficiency.

Key Accountabilities

· Perform V&C activities, including assessment, oversight, screening and clearance of oil, gas, chemical and dry bulk vessels and terminals, as well as, clearance vessel owner/technical manager, STS contractor and terminal operator assessment reports to resolve their conformance with relevant standards and their suitability for use by bp.

· Evaluate the suitability of newly identified potential TC technical managers and vessels nominated for TC and provide reports to the vetting and clearance LT.

· Support the V&C LT in ensuring consistent application of all marine assurance policies and procedures and offer mentorship to bp businesses to ensure similar implementation.

· Offer feedback to the Operations and performance, HSE, Marine and Engineering teams to support the development and promulgation of assessment standard with the objective of achieving global consistency of assessment activity across employed and sub-contracted activity.

· Give towards the maintenance of the coordinated Marine Assurance System (iMAS/CLEAR) database and other relevant data sources to ensure accurate and current information.

· Provide marine activity support and advice to bp Terminals, Charterers, Operators, Logistics Teams, bp contractors, third parties and other shipping activities as requested.

· Conduct self verification and report incidents and breaches through internal reporting systems. Identify, scope, draft, implement, maintain and lead improvements in iMAS user base. Providing oversight of the performance and delivery of third party data providers.

Professional Experience

· Class II/2 or III/2 (Master Mariner or Chief Engineer) with experience as Master/Chief Officer or Chief Engineer/2nd Engineer on board oil/gas tankers (LNG, Ammonia).

· Equivalent professional marine operations qualification/experience with a shipping background, including ship operations and/or marine terminal management.

· Knowledge of OCIMF standards including SIRE, TMSA, and Marine Terminal Baseline criteria.

· Reliable experience to assess risk and lead business transformation in refined environments, demonstrating strong IT and digital skills to drive operational improvements.

· Conducting assessments such as Terminal, Ship Owner, and STS Contractor Assessments - covering purpose, planning, and processing BPTA/BPCA.

· Leading vessel inspections and voyage clearance requests - including planning, report reviews, assessing reports, vessel and location clearance.

· Leading risk assessments, coordinating the MoC process, and engaging with Ship Owners.

Bonus Skills

· Risk analytical experience specifically the development of diverse barrier assessments and leading indicators. Knowledge of statistical analysis techniques

· SIRE Inspector accreditation

· Chartered Status
