In India, BP Technical Solutions India (TSI) Centre in Pune, aims to build on bp’s existing engineering and technical strengths to deliver high quality services to its hydrocarbons and new energy businesses worldwide. TSI brings together diverse engineering capability to provide technical services across a range of areas including engineering, maintenance, optimization, data processes, projects and subsurface, to deliver safe, affordable, and lower emission energy, while continuously innovating how we work. Global Subsurface Solutions (GSS) delivers high-quality, high impact, subsurface technical products to address prioritized business challenges across bp’s oil, gas, and low carbon businesses.
Section 2: Early Careers Program
Early Careers Experience at bp
Our summer internships are 8 weeks. You’ll be based in one team throughout your internship, working on real projects that you’ll be able to manage through to completion. Throughout you’ll have the support of a dedicated line manager and a buddy from one of our early career programs. Alongside your day-to-day responsibilities, you’ll have the opportunity to attend events and socials with other interns, take part in training sessions to help develop your interpersonal skills and network with leaders from across bp. The program is designed to help build your skills and technical knowledge whilst also allowing you to learn more about life at bp. This is an assessed internship and may be a potential talent pipeline into graduate opportunities the following year.
Section 3: Roles & Responsibilities and Requirements
About the discipline: Process Engineering:
Process Engineering in BP plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and sustainable operation of its production and refining facilities.
Process engineers provide discipline expertise across P&O, to support the businesses in delivering their plans, to drive discipline excellence and capability development and to support the deployment of efficient and standardized tools and processes. This includes activities such as designing & optimizing processes, troubleshooting operational issues, conducting technical evaluations such as heat & material balance, hydraulic calculations & equipment performance assessments.
Role and Responsibilities:
The precise nature of your role will be defined by the needs of the business, but your duties and responsibilities will include:
- Apply your chemical/process engineering skills to solve real-world problems in technology development, projects, or operations.
- Care passionately about the safety of our facilities, and develop the skills needed to constantly seek inherently safer solutions
- Recognise the risks in the work you are doing and constantly seek ways to mitigate
- Recognise the environmental impact of the facilities you are working on, and constantly seek ways to reduce it.
- Building relationships both within bp and with our external partners, collaborating across functions, segments and teams to deliver excellence
- Demonstrating drive and dedication through the bp values with an emphasis on safety
Requirements:
- Be currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering
- Maintain a CGPA of min. 7.5
- Internship Programme: To apply for this role, you must be in your penultimate year of study and graduating by July 2027 and eligible for a 2-month internship between May – July 2026
- Have a willingness to learn, a passion to excel and deliver results

Job Summary:
As an Early-Career Process Intern Engineer, you will support the mass balance, hydraulic calculation, basic simulation concepts and other industrial concepts of process systems and components. This role offers an excellent opportunity to apply foundational engineering knowledge, collaborate with experienced professionals, and gain hands-on experience in real-world engineering applications
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform basic engineering calculations to support design decisions (e.g., mass balance, equipment’s efficiency calculation, hydraulic calculation and trend analysis).
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including drawings, specifications, and test reports.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including reginal and central teams for Production and Refining assets, which include Projects, Operations, Quality control etc.
- Support the review and continuous improvement of process designs for functionality, operability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Follow International standards and codes, company’s Engineering technical practices and participate in design, Risk, operability, Maintainability reviews and attend meetings with different stack holders.
- Support to develop equipment strategies for topside/subsea equipment.
- Provide technical support regarding Subsea engineering deliverables, which may include providing integrity and risk management, assuring quality and compliance and raising issues of engineering integrity as appropriate.
- Management of change processes (MoCs) for brownfield projects and modifications, TAR and outages, hazard identification and risk assessment processes. Relevant hazard identification (HAZID) and risk assessment processes include MoCs, Hazard & Operability Study, Layer of Protection analysis, HAZIDs, Human Factors Analysis, What-Ifs, Vulnerability studies, bowties and Risk Action Plans
- Support flow assurance studies including thermal, hydraulic, and multiphase flow simulations.
- Assist in identifying and mitigating flow assurance issues such as hydrate, wax, and slugging.
- Work with Flow Assurance engineers and cross-functional teams to analyze data and optimize well and pipeline performance.
