BP Technical Solutions India (TSI) centre in Pune, aims to build on bp’s existing engineering and technical strengths to deliver high quality services to its hydrocarbons other businesses worldwide. TSI brings together diverse engineering capability to provide technical services across a range of areas including engineering, maintenance, optimization, data processes, projects and subsurface, to deliver safe, affordable energy, while continuously innovating how we work. Our global subsurface solutions team delivers high-quality, high impact, subsurface technical products to address prioritized business challenges across bp’s oil, gas, and low carbon energy businesses.
Your Early Careers Program
One Engineering is an early careers programme designed to create a pipeline of diverse professional engineers who are high-performers, have broad discipline experience, a transferable skills-set, and solving the most complex problems of today and of the future. Early career discipline engineers will build their experience through challenging development assignments, develop a toolkit of transferable skills for the future, and have a dedicated network of support to help them succeed.
Early Careers Experience at bp
Our summer internships are 8 weeks. You’ll be based in one team throughout your internship, working on real projects that you’ll be able to manage through to completion. Throughout you’ll have the support of a dedicated line manager and a buddy from one of our early careers programs. Alongside your day-to-day responsibilities, you’ll have the opportunity to attend events and socials, take part in training sessions to help develop your interpersonal skills and network with leaders from across bp. The program is designed to help build your skills and technical knowledge whilst also allowing you to learn more about life at bp. This is an assessed internship and may be a potential talent pipeline into graduate opportunities the following year.
About the discipline: Instrumentation Control & Electrical (ICE) Engineering
ICE is a core engineering discipline within bp and have sub discipline including

Role and Responsibilities
Instrument and Control engineer enables digitally secure, safe, reliable and optimal control of complex energy facilities, which include our oil refineries and biofuels plants, oil and gas production facilities, green and blue hydrogen production, on-shore and off-shore wind, solar and integrated mobility solutions.
The Instrumentation and Control engineer’s job cover a wide range of topics including design and maintenance of:
- Process Control Systems
- Safety Instrumented Systems
- Fire and Gas Systems
- Field Instrumentation
- Analyser Systems
- Metering Systems
- Telecommunications Systems and Networks
- Security Systems
- Automation Systems Cyber Security
All the above is in support of enhancing safety, optimising production, and improving reliability of our diverse facilities across the globe.
You could find yourself:
- Conducting programs for various bp assets. Programs can be Alarm management, Advanced process control system, Functional safety, Maintenance optimization and Global Hardware solutions.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including drawings, specifications, and test reports.
- Support in problem solving requested by the regions/assets.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Support the review and continuous improvement of Instrument designs for functionality, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Follow company engineering standards and participate in design reviews and project meetings.
- Designing and building process plant control systems, which means incredible variety. One day you could be working out the best way to control a biofuels reactor, the next you could be working on installing an advanced control system (a kind of autopilot) for blue hydrogen production.
- Working with the latest sensing, measurement & analysis instrument technologies; learning design and application of safety instrumented systems in production, refining, pipelines, carbon capture, hydrogen generation, biofuels and renewable energy facilities
- Integrating instrument and protection systems for electric vehicles, battery charging and storage systems or working with miniature sensors to develop energy systems integrating wind, solar and green hydrogen energy.
- Support subsea controls engineering for the global subsea controls’ equipment condition supervising data and tools.
- Support global offshore production operations with identifying control system anomalies through a standard set of supervising tools and dashboards.
- Prepare, review, and endorse controls-related, plans, procedures and metrics and intervene where appropriate.
- Prepare and maintain global equipment strategies for subsea controls equipment
- Provide controls engineering support to annual integrity reviews, fit for service barrier evaluations and incident investigations.
- Record relevant failures/learning in the shared learning systems, incorporate into reliability data reporting/global activities specifications/practices/procedures and share with controls community, call out high priority lessons.
- Working with the latest wireless technology to support development and use of industrial IoT as we build new energy systems and modernise our legacy operations.
- Working with an incredibly diverse and distributed team of experienced engineers with a global perspective. Automation touches everything in bp, even our rapid battery charging solutions require cyber secure safe control systems. Who knows where this could lead?
Requirements
- Be currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation & Control engineering, Instrumentation engineering
- Maintain a CGPA of min. 7.5
- Internship Programme: To apply for this role, you must be in your penultimate year of study and graduating by July 2027 and eligible for a 2 month internship between May – July 2026
- Have a willingness to learn, a passion to excel and deliver results
