Job Description:

The team lead will be responsible for developing a team of demurrage analysts who are responsible for tracking and handling demurrage costs incurred by the company due to delays in vessel arrival or departure. This role requires strong leadership skills as well as excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the end-to-end process of demurrage invoicing, ensuring timely and accurate billing.
  • Lead all aspects of the investigation and resolution of demurrage disputes, working closely with internal teams and external partners to minimize costs and maintain positive relationships with customers.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve demurrage performance, including training programs for staff and implementing standard processes from other regions.
  • Analyze data on demurrage trends and see opportunities for optimization, such as streamlining procedures or employing technology solutions.
  • Collaborate with commercial teams to understand market sentiment and identify areas where demurrage policies can be adjusted to better align with industry standards and reduce financial risks.
  • Provide regular updates to senior leadership on demurrage performance, highlighting key challenges and proposed solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and trade fields related to demurrage practices.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with team members within the organization, particularly those involved in trading and scheduling operations.
  • Mentor junior professionals within the demurrage team, providing guidance on standard processes and promoting a culture of perfection and accountability.
  • Stay informed about developments in shipping and transportation industries, identifying potential impacts on demurrage processes and adapting strategies accordingly.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, logistics, or a related field; MBA preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in demurrage management or similar roles, preferably in the oil and gas industry.
  • Strong understanding of contractual terms and conditions, especially those pertaining to demurrage.
  • Excellent communication and social skills, with the ability to successfully communicate with diverse audiences, including colleagues at all levels, customers, and regulatory bodies.
  • Shown leadership abilities, with experience leading direct reports and driving high performance within cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in MS Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and any specialized demurrage management tools applied by the organization.
  • Experience with project management methodologies and change management initiatives.
  • Knowledge of shipping and transportation processes, including marine assurance and trade field and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to analyze complex issues, identify root causes, and propose creative solutions.
  • Highly organized and diligent, with a proactive approach to problem solving and risk mitigation.
  • Fluency in English is important, while proficiency in another language may be helpful.
