Let me tell you about the role
The role involves providing early-stage environmental and social due diligence assessment, lead environmental and social impact assessment studies and facilitate environmental impact identification activities in support of oil and gas projects developed by bp in any country or location. Such early assessments often lead to potentially entering a new country or partnership or support project development. The output would identify opportunities or concerns in meeting local regulatory requirements, aligning to bp’s group defined practices and sustainability aims and allow early identification of potential environmental or social impacts, opportunities and mitigation measures.
What you will deliver
- Attending (virtually) regular project team meetings
For specific project scope, reviewing and providing feedback on any existing environmental, social or permitting information available
- For specific project scope identifying opportunities or concerns, not limited to, the following risk areas:
Protected area Biodiversity Freshwater resources Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions Air quality Circular Economy and Waste Management Waste water discharges Soil and land Unintended releases Social tension and civil unrest Indigenous people and other vulnerable groups Cultural heritage Community Health, Safety and Disturbance Employment and Economic Opportunities and Expectations Physical and economic displacement Security and human rights Labour rights and worker welfare Infrastructure and other economic uses Underwater and In-air sound Drilling, Completions and Workover Waste and Discharges
- For specific project and country, providing high level overview of regulatory/permitting process, identifying any areas of concern
- Collating a summary slide of findings and a detailed report
- Presenting findings to project team
- Managing environmental and social impact assessment process for projects in any geographies
- Facilitating environmental and social impact identification activities in accordance with bp procedure
What you will need to be successful
Must have educational qualifications:
- BSc in Natural Sciences / Environmental Engineering or equivalent
Preferred education/certifications:
- Chartered Environmentalist or equivalent
Minimum years of relevant experience:
- 8 years in oil and gas / related to environmental impact assessment
Must have experiences/skills (To be hired with):
- Expertise in environmental and social assessment and early permitting
- Understanding and experience with environmental regulations / permitting of onshore and offshore oil and gas projects
- Broad experience across general E&S topics
- Proficient in English - written and oral
- Ability to translate technical knowledge into pragmatic advice and support
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to foster strong working relationships across a global community
- Ability and confidence to engage with and influence senior leadership on technical matters
- Managing environmental / engineering interface
- Due diligence expertise
- Experience managing environmental consultants
- Delivery-focused and able to demonstrate effective project management skills
- Independent, self-motivated and pro-active worker
- Adaptability to work in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment
- Thorough understanding of Microsoft Office applications
