Role Summary

The Sr. I&C engineer will provide technical leadership and support for Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) across BP’s Gulf of America (GoA) offshore platforms. This role is critical to ensuring compliance with the SIS Safety Lifecycle and maintaining the integrity of safety-critical instrumentation and controls.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the SIS Safety Lifecycle Champion for GoA, identifying gaps and driving closure of associated actions.
  • Participate in HAZOP and LOPA reviews as required.
  • Review and update Safety Lifecycle Documentation, including HAZOP/LOPA records and Safety Requirements Specifications (SRS).
  • Verify that SIF architecture and SIS instrumentation meet SRS requirements.
  • Ensure consistency of Independent Protection Layers (IPLs) across documentation and systems.
  • Create and maintain Management of Change (MOC) documentation in accordance with BP standards.
  • Closely interface with the GoA Functional Safety Single Point Accountability (FS-SPA).
  • Facilitate communication and alignment with BP Solutions Central and asset discipline owners.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in instrumentation and control engineering, preferably in upstream oil & gas or offshore operations.
  • Strong understanding of IEC 61511 and the SIS Safety Lifecycle.
  • Experience with HAZOP, LOPA, and SRS development.
  • Familiarity with SIF architecture, IPLs, and MOC processes.
  • Working knowledge of offshore platform operations and safety systems.

Skills Required

  • Proficiency in SIS design, verification, and lifecycle management. (AeShield)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across disciplines and teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliverables in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience with AeShield, PHA-Pro, and other safety lifecycle tools is a plus.
