About the discipline: Petrophysics
Do you have a passion for solving puzzles?
Can you think differently about data?
These are the kind of things we look for in a bp Petrophysicist.
Petrophysicists play a crucial role in our efforts to produce enough oil and gas to help satisfy the world’s growing demand for energy. They define the volume and distribution of oil and gas in our reservoirs, as well as their flow characteristics. They investigate the properties of reservoir rocks, defining their porosity, permeability and how reservoir fluids interact with the reservoir matrix. This involves the integration of direct measurements of reservoir properties (from core and fluid samples extracted from the reservoir) with sophisticated indirect measurements made by logging tools lowered into boreholes. These tools measure the nuclear, electrical and acoustic response of rocks and the integrated results are used to predict the volume and distribution of the hydrocarbons and optimize the methods of extraction.
As a Petrophysicist intern joining our multi-disciplinary and multicultural subsurface teams, you’ll work on our global exploration program, new field developments or on a producing asset - all dynamic, collaborative environments. You’ll interact with geoscientists; reservoir, petroleum and drilling engineers; as well as commercial and other disciplines to turn your evaluations into business decisions and actions.
Displaying bp’s core beliefs you’ll become part of an organization committed to a diverse, energetic and inclusive culture that thrives on open, transparent and constructive feedback. You’ll have good numeracy skills, be dedicated, enthusiastic and committed. To succeed, you’ll need a passion to support the energy transition, a willingness to learn, a determination to excel and deliver results.
Role and responsibilities
The precise nature of your internship role and project will be determined by your skills as well as the needs of the business but your responsibilities include:
Working on projects and supporting your team to find the best solutions
Helping to maintain performance within your team and for bp as a company
Building relationships both within bp and with our external partners, collaborating across functions, segments and teams to deliver excellence
Demonstrating drive and dedication through the bp values with an emphasis on safety
Our Internship Programme is designed to give you maximum exposure to our geology business. You’ll become part of a collaborative and inclusive workplace as you build on your technical and interpersonal skills, and you’ll be in a challenging and entrepreneurial environment characterized by innovative thinking and teamwork.
During your internship you’ll get continuous feedback and guidance on how to plan and deliver your project, along with advice on what to look for and who to talk to. You’ll also be encouraged, individually and together with your intern peer group to find out as much as possible about other teams, disciplines and operations to broaden your understanding of the bp business. This is an assessed internship and may be a potential talent pipeline into graduate opportunities the following year
