Our Procurement Graduate Programme

This role is part of bp’s One Finance program, a structured three-year development journey designed to build your capabilities and broaden your experience across procurement functions.

Program Highlights include:

  • Three 12-month rotations within procurement, offering exposure to diverse teams, categories, and business challenges
  • Opportunities for cross-functional and cross-entity project work, providing global visibility and collaboration across bp’s business units
  • A strong support network including mentors, managers, and peers, plus membership of the One Finance community, including events, socials, and networking opportunities

Early careers will follow a structured development offer to accelerate the acquisition of foundational technical skills, experience and knowledge; and application in the business world. The programme supports transition from university to discipline professional and, through our 'Elevate' training programme, provides a framework of ‘non-technical’ skills to support building personal effectiveness, helping you to grow both personally and professionally.

Early careers will build their experience through challenging development assignments, grow a toolkit of transferable skills for the future, and have a dedicated network of support, as well as a vibrant Early Careers community, to help them succeed.

Role and Responsibilities

As a procurement graduate, you will be part of the global procurement organization. You’ll have the opportunity to learn about procurement and supply chain management in a large global business allowing you to showcase your current skills and further develop them while adding real value to the business. You will play an instrumental role in areas such as category strategy, sourcing, contracting, negotiations, supplier performance management on each level from initial market assessments through to contract award and beyond; always ensuring bp receives the best value from its contractors and suppliers.

Individuals in the program will be deployed throughout procurement (across supply facing, business facing and execution & enabling teams) in line with business need and capability development requirements while supporting the development and implementation of procurement strategies and tactics for your assigned areas. This highly selective three-year rotational program has been developed to jump-start your career by providing a strong foundation of communication, social and leadership skills, as well as robust analytical and problem-solving abilities. This opportunity gives you the ability to gain critical experience and knowledge across a variety of procurement categories. You will have the opportunity to gain exposure, knowledge, and experience across a variety of global bp businesses.

Key competencies will include

  • Ability to plan, prioritize and manage workload with considerable independence
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills for producing and communicating comprehensive and concise reports
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment and ability to adapt to changing priorities
  • Energetic social, motivating and influencing skills for interacting with team members, business partners, suppliers and management
  • Evidence of results-driven approach and sound analytical skills
  • Strong technical skills with required proficiency in Microsoft Office

Requirements

To apply for this role, you will need to be in your final year of study and be on track for a 2:1, or have completed your degree with a 2:1.

You are also expected to have strong spoken and written English language skills, including business and technical English. Language skills will be assessed throughout the recruitment process.

Please note: Location will depend on business needs and can change for each rotation on your Early Careers development program, as you move between roles. If you are required to relocate during the program, depending on distance, you may be offered relocation assistance.

Reward

Starting Salary: £37,100 per annum + discretionary, performance related, annual bonus.

Sign on Bonus: £3,000 (one off payment subject to tax and national insurance)

Holiday Allowance: 28 days + flexible bank holidays (to take at a time that suits you) + two wellbeing / duvet days.

Wellbeing Allowance: Claim up to £1,500 each calendar year (subject to tax and national insurance) for products and services that contribute to physical, mental, financial and social wellbeing

Flexible Benefits: In addition to your base salary, you’ll receive a flexible allowance (currently 20% of your base salary) that you can take as cash or use to buy a range of extra benefits, such as a pension, critical illness, dental care, personal accident and travel insurance, and our cycle to work scheme.

Private Medical Insurance: We’ll pay for private healthcare, and you only pay an income tax charge.

bp Share Plans: You can choose to take part in our share plan and buy bp shares every month.
