Early Careers at bp

Looking to turn your career dreams into global impact? Explore graduate opportunities with bp. Here you get to work on challenging projects, learn from experts and mentors, and be part of a high-performing team from the get-go. You get the freedom to think boldly, the licence to innovate and the chance to grow in multiple directions. And you get supported, recognised and rewarded along the way.

Our Internships

Our summer internships are 11 weeks. You’ll be based in one team throughout your internship, working on real projects that you’ll be able to manage through to completion. Throughout you’ll have the support of a dedicated line manager and a buddy from one of our early careers programs. Alongside your day-to-day responsibilities, you’ll have the opportunity to attend events and socials with other interns, take part in training sessions to help develop your interpersonal skills and network with leaders from across bp. The program is designed to help build your skills and technical knowledge whilst also allowing you to learn more about life at bp.

About the discipline: Products & Projects

The digital disciplines are a logical grouping of digital capabilities that facilitate the development of skills and experience, career progression and digital talent in bp. Our digital disciplines are made up of specialist sub-disciplines which focus on aspects of our digital capability.

Product and projects: We define problems and opportunities, develop solutions, enhance user and customer experiences and deliver work to drive commercial value. This includes:

• Product management (including business analysis)

• Design (service and product design)

• Projects (project / programme management, delivery management and change management)

Role and Responsibilities

A Project Manager at bp drives the successful delivery of products, platforms, and services by applying structured development and execution methods, including Agile. This role ensures alignment with bp’s strategic objectives through comprehensive planning, execution, and delivery oversight. Project Managers skilfully balance constraints, manage team members and interdependencies, mitigate risks, and resolve conflicting priorities to deliver successful outcomes.

What you will deliver

  • Project and programme management: Develop and implement detailed project plans, including schedules, budgets, resource allocation, and delivery roadmaps. Use appropriate methodologies to deliver projects on time, within budget, and at the desired quality. Coordinate across teams to ensure project alignment with bp’s strategic objectives.

  • Delivery oversight in Agile environments: Work within Agile frameworks to align project milestones with iterative delivery cycles. Coordinate across multiple teams to track progress, resolve dependencies, and ensure continuous delivery of value. Support Agile practices at the organizational level by fostering collaboration and adaptability. • Risk and change management: Identify, evaluate, and mitigate risks to project success. Proactively address issues and adapt plans to manage changes effectively while ensuring project objectives remain achievable.

  • Stakeholder alignment and engagement: Build strong relationships with business, technical, and external partners to maintain alignment on goals, requirements, and delivery priorities. Act as a communication link between partners to ensure clarity and focus throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Continuous improvement and process optimisation: Lead efforts to refine project management practices, focusing on repeatable and measurable processes. Drive initiatives to improve delivery efficiency, reduce risks, and enhance project outcomes while maintaining a culture of continuous improvement
