Our Internships

Our summer internships are 11 weeks. You’ll be based in one team throughout your internship, working on real projects that you’ll be able to manage through to completion. Throughout you’ll have the support of a dedicated line manager and a buddy from one of our early careers programs. Alongside your day-to-day responsibilities, you’ll have the opportunity to attend events and socials with other interns, take part in training sessions to help develop your interpersonal skills and network with leaders from across bp. The program is designed to help build your skills and technical knowledge whilst also allowing you to learn more about life at bp.

Role and Responsibilities

The Geospatial Technology Intern will have an understanding of technology, data, analytics, engineering and science solutions in respect to location. They will join a squad as part of the wider Geospatial team within Oil and Gas Technology gaining exposure to cutting-edge technologies and their real-world applications. The Geospatial Technology Intern will interface closely with other Geospatial SMEs, Digital Product, and business stakeholders to deploy and develop Geospatial technology, data & analytical solutions to meet business challenges across a wide range of domains including Production, Projects, Subsurface & Wells, Crisis, Renewables, and Refining.

Key technical capabilities and expectations:

  • Geospatial Technology: some exposure to the use and deployment of geospatial technology including configuration and connectivity (eg. Cameras, Handhelds, AR/VR equipment, sensors, GPS, drone).
  • Geospatial Data Management: exposure to the use of spatial databases, spatial access methods, coordinate reference systems, representation of spatial objects, image processing, query processing, spatial data infrastructures, data manipulation, data security.
  • Geospatial Analysis: some knowledge of query operations and languages, earth geometry and geodesy, analytical operations, analysis of surfaces, spatial statistics, geo-statistics, spatial regression and econometrics, data mining, network analysis, optimization, and location allocation modeling.
  • Spatial Data Visualization: some knowledge of the principles of map design, graphic representation techniques, map production, development of web-based maps, applications, and dashboards.
  • Ability to import, export and manipulate data between Geospatial systems and other applications, utilizing tools such as FME and Databricks.
  • Awareness one or more data-related technologies/languages (e.g. Python, R, Java Script, etc.).
  • Some experience working with the ArcGIS Desktop and Enterprise suite of tools (ArcGIS Pro, Server, Portal and associated API’s).

Requirements

To apply for this role, you will need be working towards a Master’s degree, GIS, Geospatial, Geospatial Survey, Geographic Science, Computer Science, and other related fields and be on track for a 2:1.

You are also expected to have strong spoken and written English language skills, including business and technical English. Language skills will be assessed throughout the recruitment process.

22nd June to 4th September 2026

Reward

Starting Salary: £35,200 per annum.
