Join our Team and advance your career as a Staff Business Analyst

This role will be a leader in the bp Supply, Trading & Shipping (ST&S) Technology application portfolio, delivering digital products to our business entities and more specifically responsible for fuel supply & midstream digital platforms, operations and digital transformation.

A Staff Business Analyst is responsible for eliciting, defining and managing business requirements from stakeholders using structured business analysis tools, techniques and methodologies, to ensure that Technology delivers IT product(s) that successfully meet those needs, and that our customers experience is positive, and expectations are met.

bp operates a discipline-based organization and Staff Business Analysts may be deployed to work in different areas of our business over time. You will bring the transferable skills which will allow you to support an immediate business demand, and to grow your skills over time through exposure to different business areas.

Our Staff Business Analysts, hold management roles over the business analysts from internal squads or external providers who are collectively accountable for understanding the needs and objectives of stakeholders, which may include executives, managers, and end-users.

The role will enable the definition of business requirements and user stories for technology product development, improving processes and software systems, reducing their costs, enhancing their sustainability, and the quantification of potential business benefits. Furthermore, it is expected that collaborative creation and iteration of viable specifications and acceptance criteria in preparation for the deployment of digital products is a key aspect of this role.

This role will be primarily involved in Midstream digitization initiatives, accountable for requirements analysis and management, determining the most appropriate means to represent business requirements in the context of technology features and capabilities for the product, platform functions and features and overall digital solution.

In this role You will:

  • Lead collection, documentation, and validation of requirements for new projects, enhancements to existing systems, or improvements in business processes.

  • Conducting interviews, workshops, surveys, and observation sessions, as well as analyzing current workflows to identify pain points and opportunities for optimization of business processes.

  • Lead creation of visual representations of business requirements in the form of process flowcharts and swimlane diagrams, to clearly communicate current state versus desired future state.

  • Pinpoint inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and areas for cost reduction or quality enhancement.

  • Leverage data to inform recommendations and to support business decisions.

  • Analyze trends in process or technology efficiency, drawing insights from large datasets using analytical tools.

  • Evaluating proposed solutions against requirements and objectives

  • Facilitating user acceptance testing and validation

  • Managing project scope and supporting project managers in delivery

  • Ensuring successful handoff and adoption of new solutions

  • Accountable for building strong relationships with business and technical teams, managing stakeholder expectations and resolving conflicts by acting as a liaison between the business and technology teams.

What You will need to be successful:

  • Strong academic background; preferably in of computer science / information technology / science or Mathematics.

  • 10+ years of relevant experience

  • Proven business analysis expertise across digital products, including solution design, business architecture, and value-driven analysis

  • Ability to define technology solutions using AWS, React, Microsoft Azure, and Power Platform, in collaboration with architecture and engineering teams

  • Skilled in translating requirements into actionable backlog items

  • Familiarity with reference models, delivery methods, and digital trends in business analysis

  • Agile business analysis and design thinking practitioner

  • Strong change management and delivery assurance capabilities

  • Effective communicator across technical and business audiences

  • Self-motivated, able to work in a global virtual team

  • Experience with agile tools like Azure DevOps

  • Committed to BP’s Code of Conduct and leadership values

Desirable criteria:

  • Experience delivering supply chain and logistics initiatives; familiarity with SAP system integrations.

  • Embraces change and agility; collaborative and self-aware; applies sound judgment; culturally fluent.

  • Knowledge of Scrum practices; understanding of data modeling and engineering; skilled in requirements gathering for complex systems; familiar with agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban); continuous improvement mindset; experience in data governance and compliance.

  • Energy industry experience is a plus.
