About the programme
Designed for final year students, our 12-week summer internship programme commences in June 2026 and is designed to give you maximum exposure to our engineering disciplines. You’ll become part of a collaborative and inclusive workplace as you build on your technical and interpersonal skills, and you’ll enjoy access to some of the most talented people in their fields.
You will be working on projects with real impact to our business. You’ll be placed in a team that best matches your skillset and ambitions and be an integral part of the team’s success.
You could be carrying out research and analysis into a particular market area to help support trading decisions
You could produce a daily news report to highlight market information and important drivers for the trading team.
You could be working to automate and optimise systems to speed up trading processes
Alongside this, a buddy will help you network and learn everything you need to perform in the organisation. Over the course of the internship programme, you’ll have the opportunity to learn about our graduate programme through networking, training & information sessions before deciding on which graduate development track you would like to be considered for as our summer internship is a primary pipeline for our 2026 engineering graduate programme.
Vacant internship positions
Intern – petroleum engineer
The match candidate is expected to learn and support Tangguh production management or depletion management squad team which will work under supervision of experienced petroleum engineer in the team to ensure the real work experience on managing big gas producers in Tangguh field is obtained. It is expected that the selected candidate will learn from data surveillance, well performance evaluation, system modelling and optimization and well clean & testing (depend upon drilling schedule).
Intern – reservoir engineer
A reservoir engineering (RE) intern will gain hands-on experience with the industry-leading toolkit to analyze the giant assets, optimize production strategies that directly impact global energy supply, and participate in important technical decisions alongside senior engineers. Join us as a reservoir engineer and you’ll work on the world-class assets while contributing to net-zero ambitions through leading-edge reservoir optimization and carbon capture initiatives.
Intern – geophysicist
Geophysics is concerned with the acquisition, processing, interpretation and analysis of seismic and other geophysical datasets (e.g. gravity-magnetic surveys) to create an image of the subsurface. Intern - geologist
Geology is concerned with the application of geological principles and techniques to characterize the subsurface, describe uncertainty ranges, manage risk, and use large amounts of technical data to inform business decisions. Could you be the next geologist to join our team? The energy transition to a net zero future requires geoscientists to play a meaningful role in ensuring we can meet the world’s growing demand for energy while striving for an efficient transition. At bp, our geoscientists use leading-edge technology to deliver hydrocarbon while developing low carbon energy solutions. As a geologist you will work with multiple Subsurface data to deliver high-quality reservoir description to progress prioritized business opportunities.
Intern – HSE & carbon
The safety of our sites, the well-being of our people and our impact on the environment are fundamental to our business. HSE and carbon covers all businesses throughout bp from offshore production facilities, to wind and solar farms, global networks of retail sites, and many other exciting ventures. Roles and responsibilities
The precise nature of your role and task will be determined by your skills as well as the needs of the business but your responsibilities include:
Working on task and supporting your squad to find the best solutions
Helping to maintain performance within your squad and for bp as a company
Building relationships within bp, collaborating across functions and squads to deliver excellence
Demonstrating agility, initiative and dedication through the bp “Who we are”.
During your internship you’ll get continuous feedback and guidance on how to plan and deliver your assigned project or task, along with advice on what to look for and who to talk to. You’ll also be encouraged, individually and together with your Intern peer group, to find out as much as possible about other teams, disciplines and operations to broaden your understanding of the bp business. And successful interns may get an opportunity to rejoin as a graduate the following year.
To be eligible for the internship programme you are:
Be undertaking a relevant Bachelors (S1) or Masters (S2) or PhD (S3) degree in related roles, such as:
Subsurface: petroleum engineering, chemical engineering, geology, geophysics, geoscience, physics
HSE & Carbon: environmental engineering, process safety, HSE/K3, sustainable management, industrial engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering
Have a willingness to learn, a passion to excel and deliver results
Graduation criteria for eligibility for internship:
Graduating by August or November 2026 or will be final year student (4th year/ 8th semester) in June 2026
