Job Purpose:
To own and deliver our global performance management process and / or our flagship high potential programs and talent management process. This includes setting the annual agenda, driving impactful communication campaigns, handling diverse stakeholder needs and engagement and problem solving.
Role: Performance Management Consultant
The Performance Management Consultant is accountable for leading the global annual performance (appraisal) management process, one of the Talent Management & Assessment workstreams. The other workstreams are the (1) global talent process and practices and (2) high potential pools and programs.
The performance management process at bp drives business performance through ensuring that employees work aligns with the business goals. The process includes goal setting, ongoing feedback and coaching, performance appraisal/reviews, development planning and assigning performance ratings.
This role involves partnering with internal and external stakeholders to define performance management strategies and annual workflows, create and deliver annual processes, be responsible for the delivery of associated training, handle the budget and relationships with vendors.
The role requires significant influencing, communication, and prioritization skills as well as subject matter expertise.
Key Accountabilities:
- Create performance management and talent frameworks and tools
- Plan the annual schedule and proactively handle the overall delivery, demonstrating integration points across L&C
- Use Business map to organise and handle delivery
- Create comms strategy and review all content
- Manage internal collaborators and partners (i.e. reward, works council, business LTs)
- Own vendor relationships and manage contracts up to a value of $3M
- Provide expert advice / attend business LTs as required
- Keep up to date with the external environment and bring standard process to L&C and beyond
- Keep track of critical metrics and make strategic decisions based on the data
- Lead workshops and briefing sessions
Essential Education, Experience and Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Proven experience of 8 years in performance management, talent management, leadership development, learning or human resources directing teams or projects with complex operational delivery requirements.
- Performance management expertise: proven track record in design, implementing and scaling a global HR performance management process, along with knowledge of best practice in the market
- Talent management expertise: Experience in designing, implementing, and scaling global talent and/or learning programs.
- Delivery excellence: Proven track record to work well in cross-functional and global teams to deliver excellent talent solutions with a culture of continuous improvement.
- Vendor Management: Experience managing contracts and relationships with external partners, including consultants, specialist providers and educational institutions, to deliver high quality talent solutions.
Technical:
- Performance management: Strong track record in managing a global performance management process including delivering the annual cycle (conversations, goals, performance ratings), working with linked teams such as Reward and measuring return on investment.
- Talent management: Track record in designing and delivering high-impact talent management initiatives and projects/programmes and managing third parties
- Project Management: Has led multiple performance management, talent management or organizational change projects within large, sophisticated organizations, delivering on time and within budget using a wide range of project management approaches with demonstrable impact
- Commercial competence: Proven commercial acumen and management of third party vendors that are cost effective and value driven for bp. Track record of financial operations and management of >$500k initiatives
- Change Management: Can plan and manage change in sophisticated, global organizations, using a wide range of change management practices and measure effectiveness
- Data and analytics: Track record in developing and using data analysis, visualisation and analytics solutions for insights, operational reporting and decision-making of talent Excel and PowerBi).
- Creating and measuring impact: Has established robust measurement frameworks, ensuring leadership and talent products/offers demonstrate direct measurable business impact and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Digital & Technology: Utilises innovation and creative thinking to support solution design. Drives improvements through the use of digital tools and technology to enhance delivery
- Performance Consulting: Track record of devising sustainable solutions to address root cause issues on large projects to drive performance outcomes

- Strategic and critical thinking: Demonstrates strong understanding and has a track record of taking organisation goals and translate them into actionable team objectives for leadership development / talent management products. Can navigate uncertainty and ambiguity well to drive business outcomes and impact
- Communication & influencing: Strong communication skills to communicate clearly with a range of collaborators – oral and written. Strong record of engaging collaborators and building partnership across teams for efficiencies and minimise duplication
- Growth mindset: Natural curiosity and interest in the evolving talent needs of the future and working with external industry and research institute standard methodology into leadership development / talent management products at bp. Demonstrable record in continuous improvement.
- Leadership and teamwork: Proven track record in encouraging and supporting team members meet high standards, fostering collaboration and a shared commitment to excellence.
- Customer focused: Has designed services and products in partnership with stakeholders, deeply understanding core needs and demonstrating the business impact of interventions
- Trusted advisor and discretion: Trusted advisor with ability to discreetly manage confidential and sensitive information (i.e. ITKs).
